Spring Reading Thing Challenge

Ami McKay
Personal Rating: 3.75/5
Yearly Count: 28

The first half of this book was fine, but the second half proved to have much more depth and substance. As interesting as it was to reminisce about being younger and having babies, I believe the topic would be much more enticing to those that currently have young families; although, others (like me) would certainly enjoy it too.

There was a plethora of era-generated characters, all of which had a specific purpose in the storyline. I found them to be aptly placed and enjoyed the range of emotions they all prompted.

This is McKay's debut novel and I proclaim it well-done. I am curious as to what topic she'll explore next. I'll be looking for it.

  2. I'm excited to read this, too. It's high on my nightstand stack!

  3. I haven't read this one, and I don't really plan to, but I did see it in the bookstore and I was struck with how simiilar so many book covers are nowadays. Doesn't this one remind you of 'The Inhabited World', with it's empty chair?

  4. I plan to read this but my library doesn't have it. I will either have to try ILL or wait for paperback. I am one of those who only shells out the money for a hardcover with tried and true authors. :)

    Glad you enjoyed it Joy!

  5. Booklogged, Les, and Amy ~ I think you all will really like it. I just didn't get any "WOW" feelings about it.

    Kookie ~ Yes, it does.

  6. I wanted to review this one for harper collins and did not get picked. Oh, well. I am glad you liked it and may have to pick it up from the library. By the way I believe you won Exile. I would have to go back and check. Could you email me so I can mail the book out to you?

  7. Lover of Books ~ I believe it is Booklogged at A Reader's Journal that won Exile. Thanks for mixing me up with her though...that's a compliment. :)

  8. because i saw this book on several SRT lists, i've checked it out of the library. i don't know how quickly i'll get to it, but i am looking forward to it. thanks for your review.

  9. Alisonwonderland ~ I hope you enjoy it. I'll have to stop by and see what you have to say about it.
