Spring Reading Thing Challenge

THE BIRTH HOUSE
Ami McKay
Personal Rating: 3.75/5
Yearly Count: 28

The first half of this book was fine, but the second half proved to have much more depth and substance. As interesting as it was to reminisce about being younger and having babies, I believe the topic would be much more enticing to those that currently have young families; although, others (like me) would certainly enjoy it too.

There was a plethora of era-generated characters, all of which had a specific purpose in the storyline. I found them to be aptly placed and enjoyed the range of emotions they all prompted.

This is McKay's debut novel and I proclaim it well-done. I am curious as to what topic she'll explore next. I'll be looking for it.

  3. I haven't read this one, and I don't really plan to, but I did see it in the bookstore and I was struck with how simiilar so many book covers are nowadays. Doesn't this one remind you of 'The Inhabited World', with it's empty chair?

  4. I plan to read this but my library doesn't have it. I will either have to try ILL or wait for paperback. I am one of those who only shells out the money for a hardcover with tried and true authors. :)

    Glad you enjoyed it Joy!

  6. I wanted to review this one for harper collins and did not get picked. Oh, well. I am glad you liked it and may have to pick it up from the library. By the way I believe you won Exile. I would have to go back and check. Could you email me so I can mail the book out to you?
