ON CHESIL BEACH
Ian McEwan
Personal Rating: 3.25/5
Yearly Count: 89

This story is about a young couple, Edward and Florence that are very much in love, yet experience a highly poignant honeymoon. McEwan developed these characters with great precision; I felt compassion and sympathy for both.

Being my first McEwan novel, I was pleasantly surprised with the writing style and appreciated the ending. It has lingered in my mind.

  1. I've read several of McEwan's novels and Atonement remains my all-time favorite. It's one of those books, though, that people either love or hate. I'll have to give this one a try pretty soon.

  4. Les ~ I don't have any McEwan on my TBR list. I don't know why that is. This one was available on the NEW bookshelf at the library, so I brought it home. I will try another. I'll keep Atonement in mind. :)

Heather ~ HI! It's good to see you. It's been a while. Even if it's not a favorite, it's a very short read, so not much time will be lost.

Literary Feline ~ Like I said, short and sweet. Well, maybe not sweet, but ...

  5. I've heard this one might be the forerunner for the Booker prize, or am I thinking of another one of his books? I haven't read anything by him yet, but I do own Amsterdam and Atonement. Glad you liked it!

  6. Trish ~ I'm not sure about the Booker prize. Atonement is on my TBR list. I have really only heard good things about it, so why don't you read it and let me know. *giggle*

  7. I posted about this book not too long ago, too. Let's see if I can find it... here!

But I don't think it's McEwan's best, so if you loved it, you're really in for a treat with some of his other work!

  8. Dewey ~ I do look forward to his other work. I'm just not sure when I'll get to them. :)
