NEW MOON

Stephenie Meyer
Genre: YA Fantasy
Published: 2006
Personal Rating: 2.75/5
Yearly Count: 23

This installment of the Twilight Saga brings a separation for Bella and Edward which throws Bella into a depression. During this time, she deepens her friendship with Jacob and discovers that there is more to him than she thought. Once Bella and Edward reunite, their agenda is to figure out what to do with the rest of their lives.

There were many issues regarding the story line, the realism, and the message that this book portrayed that disappointed me. And, yes, I did state realism. Twilight was presented in such a way that the supernatural didn't seem so far-fetched. New Moon turned hokey and silly in some scenes that made me remember why I don't care for vampire stories. I'm happy to cross it off my lists and move on.

  1. I didn't like this one as well either, Joy. My daughter assures me that Eclipse is better but I don't even have it on my list for this year. Who knows though? :)

I just posted a comment about this on my mailing list. I wanted to add that you are really moving through this challenge. You go!

Oh my. I enjoyed this one because it didn't have Edward in it as much. Are you going to preserver through the series and read Eclipse?

  4. Amy ~ I can't imagine me picking it up in 2008 either; however, I have heard from several people that Eclipse is better.

    J. Kaye ~ Yeah...only 6 more to go to complete the TBR Challenge. :) I didn't plan on reading so many, so soon. It has just worked out that way.

Maw ~ I have another "vampire" series that I really need to give a try before moving forward with this one, but I have been encouraged to continue. :) We'll see.

  5. You're the only other person to join me in not caring for these books. I only read book one and that was enough for me. I do think this is one of the best book covers ever. It looks great, but also fits the story. The cover for Twilight was pretty good, too.

I hope the other vampire series you're talking about is The Gardella Vampire Slayer series. I like it much better.

  6. Booklogged ~ I surprised myself and really did like the first (4/5); however, this second one wasn't up to the same caliber in my opinion.

And, YES, Colleen Gleason's series is the one I'm talking about! I received the 2nd in the series from Colleen through you (thank you again), but just haven't got around to the 1st. I NEED to do that.

I'm going to stick with the series, even though I really felt the first book to be the best one yet.

  8. Stephanie ~ I know it won't be any time soon for me if I do continue, but I have been encouraged. :)

  9. New Moon is definitely not as good as the first or third book, but I still enjoyed it. I hope book four ends the series on a really high note.

  10. Framed ~ I'm glad you agree (in general) about New Moon and that the third is good. It helps. :)

  11. I bought Twilight a while back, but for whatever reason (bad attitude on my part, I suppose), I can't seem to actually pick it up and give it a try. Same thing with Gleason's...I have the first two sitting on my shelf, but despite all the raves I hear over them, I just can't make myself crack them open.

  12. Debi ~ I figure if I could try Gaiman and other blobby classics, I can try vampire books! *lol* I don't know if I'll read anymore of this Twilight series, but I know I will try Gleason's this year (hopefully soon).

I'll be watching to see if you give either of them a try. :)

Oh I loved this one....I had heard it was awful that I delayed in reading it, however, I really enjoyed it because I felt that the pain of loss was so realistically dealt with. I'm reading Eclipse now....now that one I don't feel is as good.

  14. Danielle ~ Reading this genre was a stretch for me from the get-go, so I'm not surprised I didn't care for it, but it was a nice surprise to have liked the first one. I hope Eclipse picks up and that #4 is fabulous! :)
