STRIPPED

Author: Brian Freeman
Genre: Thriller
Published: 2006
Personal Rating: 2.5/5
Yearly Count: 76

Detective Jonathan Stride is back with a new partner and raring to hit the streets of Las Vegas, Nevada and . . . oh boy. AudioFile says it this way, " Show girls, strippers, s*x workers, gangsters, and politicos combine to create a neon nightmare of murder and mystery. " Stride is confronted with it all during a three-tiered plot.

This was a huge disappointment! Immoral, the first in the Jonathan Stride series, had immoral content, but nothing as descriptive or crass as this second in the series. It was way over the top in language, character count, immoral behavior, sub-plots and worst of all - words. Freeman described everything in great detail and gave incredibly long background stories. It was just too much of everything for me. Its saving grace was Stride - I liked him. Interesting how one character can keep a reader involved when everything surrounding them is chaos. I need a few questions answered before I even think about picking up the third in this series. If it's like this one - it's a no go.

I enjoyed the first book more than book two, but wasn't as disappointed.

  2. Immoral was okay but I don't have much interest in reading any more of the series.

    Incredibly long background stories? Enh.

I couldn't even finish the first book. It wasn't that I thought it was bad content, it just didn't capture my attention at all.

  4. J. Kaye ~ Thank goodness for Stride or I wouldn't have continued.

Carrie K ~ Yep. A new character would be introduced and he would go on forever. TMI

Danielle ~ I'm bummed. I had hoped for another good series to keep up with. Oh well. Onward.

  5. I'm not a big fan of gratuitous all the above--your beginning paragraph made it sound exciting, though. Oh well.

  6. Trish ~ Once again - others love it, but it just wasn't for me. I do want to know how the next one is, so I haven't lost all hope. :)
