22nd Challenge Completed!

Wow!  I am happy-happy!  After all my grumbling (I really tried to keep it in check), I am thrilled with the outcome of this challenge.  I was able to cross off many books from my TBR list that I was afraid to tackle (I suffer from classic-phobia).  This time around my personal ratings averaged a 3.9 with 6 books.  I consider that a huge success!

Thank you Trish from Trish's Reading Nook for hosting this challenge.

Classics Challenge Reads:

Anne of Avonlea (Montgomery)
*The Remains of the Day (Ishiguro)
Of Mice and Men (Steinbeck)
The Bell Jar (Plath)
Flowers for Algernon (Keyes)
Travels with Charley (Steinbeck)

*Classic Wannabe Extra

Here is my original list of books with links to my thoughts.

Favorite:
Of Mice and Men (Steinbeck)

Least Favorite:
Travels with Charley (Steinbeck)

  4. Wow! You are super speedy! Way to go on finishing this challenge! Classics always seem more difficult to read, but worth it in the end!

  5. Thank goodness that you finally lost that link you were using to the "classics that stink" list

    ;-P

  7. Lynne ~ I feel a weight lifted off my shoulders! It ended up being good, so like I said, I'm happy!

Kara ~ I finally have read some classics that I enjoyed. I'm not cured of my phobia, but I am on my way to recovery. :) Hope you get there, too!

Iliana ~ Thank you. It feels good.

Laura ~ I can't quite admit that YET, but I did enjoy this bunch of classics. :)

Suzi ~ LOL! I think somebody had mercy on me and fixed the link to the "good plus" list. I'm so appreciative.

Dar ~ I'm focusing, Dar. Must finish challenges. :) Actually, it's been working out well. I've been throwing in a non-challenge book every now and then as well.

  8. Ohhh....I am so jealous of you! 22 challenges completed? I think I need to quit my job so I can catch up! I definitely bit off too many challenges this year--my first year--next year I will need to be a bit more careful. I am still attempting to finish them though. I have finished one of my classics books and am in the middle of my second one. I picked a couple of really long ones--they are good, but long!

I think you will get to Olive Kitteridge before me--it will have to wait until after Christmas for me I fear--all because of those pesky challenges I signed up for! I will be looking for your review.

The Guernsey Literary Society was sure a treat to read, and like I said, a perfect vacation book. I agree with you, yeah for good books!

  9. Kim ~ My job has been a blessing - listening while working has been great!

Olive most likely will have to wait until challenges are nearing completion, too, but ya never know. I'm allowing myself some wanna reads here and there. It may become one of those. :)

  11. Yay Joy--that is fantastic! I'm glad that the grumbling was mostly pre-challenge and that you were able to find some that you enjoyed. :)

By the way, I have something for you...I just haven't had the time to send an email since I've been back. :D

  13. Trish ~ Oh yeah, the challenge . . . I'm very happy with the outcome and have several other classics that I still want to read. I'm thrilled that the classics genre has opened up for me. I just have to be very picky in what I choose, so I don't get discouraged. Thank you for hosting and all the encouragement; I truly appreciate it. It's so sad to not like a genre, BUT I won't be saying that about classics anymore!!! :)

  14. Wow, congrats Joy! 3.9 is a pretty darn respectable average for any challenge, I'd say! Glad it wasn't as terrible as you'd feared. :)

  15. Debi ~ Hi there! Last year's classics challenge was a disaster for me. My choices were pathetic. I actually came out of this year's challenge smiling. :)
