ODD HOURS

Author:  Dean Koontz
Genre:  Supernatural Thriller
Published:  2008
Personal Rating:  2.5/5
Yearly Count:  127

After leaving the monastery, Odd Thomas takes on a job as a cook in an old gentleman's home on the oceanfront.  Odd had a dream of the red tide and later that day when he goes on a walk he recognizes the woman that was in his dream.  A conversation begins, and then, so does a chase.

Oh my.  Plain and simple - Odd was not the Odd I know and love.  He just was not the same character.  Maybe that's the point?  Who knows?  Not only that, other supporting characters were missing.  It was just disappointing - disappointing to not visit with Odd.  Hopefully, the 5th installment of this series will revive the real Odd Thomas.

  1. I've never read anything by Koontz and always thought that if I did I would start with the Odd Thomas books. Sorry this one didn't do it for you...that's always a disappointment--especially in a series.

  2. After having a bad experience with my first Dean Koontz book, I refused to read anything else for awhile but have since then picked up a few that I liked. I've heard good things about this series, sorry you didn't enjoy this one :(

  3. Trish ~ I'm hoping for a turnaround in the 5th! The first Odd Thomas really was great. You can still start with that one. :)

Ladytink ~ What was the book that turned you away from Koontz? Just curious. :)

  4. Oh it's been years but I think it was called Night Chills or something to that effect. I could be wrong and I don't even remember what I found so objectionable now.

There are only one or two Dean books that I have read - not really a fan. Thanks for stopping by and posting about the PSE6....I am going to download it this afternoon ;)

  6. Sorry Joy, nothing worse than when you hit a not so good story in a series you love. I hope the next one will be better too.

  8. Of all the books in this series, I have to say that I really only loved Odd Thomas. The rest were too disappointing. This last one was so weird. I tried to read it, but gave up. I hope you're right about #5. I'll wait for your review. :)

Danielle ~ Have fun with it, Danielle!

Dar ~ I'll keep reading, though. I love Odd.

    Framed ~ Oh . . . ENJOY the first!

Les ~ LOL I'm hopin', I'm so hopin'. I've loved his character in all of them (except this one), but I haven't enjoyed the plots as much.
