33rd Challenge Completed!

This was a fun challenge for me.  I did not join it last year because I didn't think I knew any Canadian authors, so I didn't pursue it.  Using the book lists from last year's challenge, I was able to come up with ample books to choose from for this year.  My ratings ranged from 1.5 to 4.25, meaning my pleasure varied; however, that's not an indication of my overall feelings towards the challenge.  I actually had a very good time gathering and reading books by many new-to-me Canadian authors, several of which I plan to continue with their series.

I have one confession to make - I sort of wimped out at the end.  I did not plan it this way, but my last three books are short graphic novels all by the same author.  Once I became aware of the books, I was going to count the three of them as one (trilogy).  BUT, after further thought, I decided it was legit and I'm calling the Canadian Challenge completed!

Thank you John from The Book Mine Set for hosting this challenge.

The 2nd Canadian Book Challenge Reads:

Anne of Avonlea (Montgomery)
Charley's Web (Fielding)
The Penelopiad (Atwood)
Gallows View (Robinson)
Runaway (Munro)

The Cruelest Month (Penny)
Hate You (McNamee)
Forty Words for Sorrow (Blunt)
Bad City Bad Blood (Chercover)
Griffin & Sabine (Bantock)
Sabine's Notebook (Bantock)
The Golden Mean (Bantock)

Here is my original list of books with links to my thoughts.

  1. wow, that was fast! Good for you finishing so fast. I hope you keep reading Anne, Anne of the Island is very good, and really completes the first 2 books. I haven't read any of the other ones, but I know that Atwood can be hit or miss for me, usually miss. I have a Munro here to read for the challenge too. You could do the challenge again before Canada Day.

  2. I'm not even half-way through. I'm impressed that you've finished. I loved all the Anne books but the first is still my favorite. I haven't read any of the others but I do own the first two Louise Penny books. Someday.

  3. Raidergirl3 ~ I have had tunnel vision when it has come to challenges these last couple of months. I really wanted to finish them all as soon as possible. Even though I have loved them, I need some freedom.

I will continue with Anne and I'm interested in giving Monro another shot - I can't remember which one I have on my TBR shelf, though. As for Atwood, I have another one of those too, but I have no plans to read it in the near future.

Framed ~ The Penny books have really grown on me. I actually have liked them all, but now I'm getting excited for the next one.

  5. You rock!! :) So---why haven't I see anything about The Horseman's Graves over here? That would have been perfect for this challenge! LOL--no pressure, though...

  6. Dar ~ It's difficult to do challenges when there are soooo many good books out there.

Trish ~ It is perfect for this challenge! It's actually on my list of possibilities and I wanted to read it. HOWEVER, like I said to Raidergirl3 above, I just wanted to finish the challenge as soon as possible. The Horseman's Grave is on my 2009 list of must read! :)

  8. You're finished? Wow, I've barely even started! My latest Canadian read is languishing on the pile, mostly because I like it so much I don't want it to end.

  11. Trish ~ I think planning ahead is always a good thing. LOL

    Bookfool ~ Ohhhh! "... I don't want it to end." What's the title? I'm intrigued. :)

John Mutford ~ You know - I'm not tired of it because it's a good thing. Who doesn't like to be happy and joyful? :) That's interesting that you haven't read any of the 13. I do want to read Yellowknife, so we can have one in common. :)

Teddy Rose ~ I was in focus mode - must complete challenge! :) Enjoy your remaining books! By the way, guess what I just picked up for $1? A brand spankin' new, hardcover, Sweetness in the Belly! I'm so excited!
