John Grisham says that he could have written 5,000 pages about this innocent man!!! Whoa! This was his first non-fiction work, and it was an interesting read, yet I found there to be chunk that became a bit tedious. Thankfully he condensed it to 360 pages!
The actual story of Ron Williamson was a compelling one and I do appreciate it being told. However, being a true Grisham fan, I am slightly disappointed that this book didn't make the usual stellar rating from me. I look forward to his next.

I am considering reading this one day. I have only had the chance to read one Grisham novel, although I've seen just about every movie made based on his books. :-) That's too bad that it wasn't quite up to use usual standard. Do you think it was because this one was nonfiction?
ReplyDeleteLiterary Feline ~ I don't think I liked it as well because there were spots that got bogged down with too many details and some repetitious behavior. That's not his fault necessarily. The facts are the facts. He probably did a fabulous job of whittling it down to 360 pages, but I only know what I read. It was still good.
ReplyDeleteI thought the same thing regarding Grisham's comment about 5000 pages!! I also appreciated learning about Ron Williamson and the horrifying justice system. I thought the narrative picked up in the middle, after Ron was convicted. I felt like Grisham kept repeating himself, and sort of beating to death the fact that Williamson had mental disorder. Thanks for your review.
ReplyDeleteI really liked the book but this is the type of non fiction I love to read. :)
ReplyDeleteI've seen this on recommended reading lists before and I didn't even know it was non-fiction. It's too bad a talented writer like Grisham couldn't make the facts more readable.
ReplyDeleteWow Joy! I just popped in here and a whole new design! Looks great! Love the colors. Did you do this all by yourself? I like the 3 columns.
ReplyDeleteTara ~ I agree with all you said.
ReplyDeleteLover of Books ~ I think the repetition was a big factor for me in not liking it as much because I love this type of non-fiction, too.
Kookie ~ I still enjoyed it, just not as much as his fiction.
Lynne ~ Thanks, Lynne! Yes, I did it all by myself with a little help from google and all the sites I visited. Google is my friend! :)
I thought this was a fiction also. Too bad it wasn't as good as you'd hoped.
ReplyDeleteFramed ~ I'm still looking forward to his next fiction book. :)
