This Elm Creek series debut had more substance than I predicted, but I have to admit that it would have been better yet, if they found a dead body in a closet or rolled up in a quilt somewhere. LOL
Needless to say, this introduction to a young married couple, a group of quilting ladies and the owner of an old Pennsylvania mansion revolved around their relationships to one another. The mansion owner shares interesting stories about her past and quilts. There's actually a lot of quilting jargon, but it's presented in the light of beginners making it a charming and cozy read.

I read this several years ago and while I enjoyed it, I haven't read anymore from the series. As I recall, the main character was a bit insecure and whiny and that got on my nerves. I wanted to tell her to get some backbone!
ReplyDeleteLes ~ This came at a good time for me, so I really appreciated it. I'll pick up the next in the series, when in need of another cozy read. Sarah didn't bother me, but I can see how she might be irritating.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what Les said, but I've read on in the series. She gets better. I really enjoy the stories in these books, the back stories I mean. I've recommended them to lots of people. Glad you'll read on.
ReplyDeletei've read a few of the books in this series. i guess i ought to post it on my series blog. :)
ReplyDeleteKay ~ That's what I liked, the stories of the past. :)
ReplyDeleteAlison ~ :) I've discovered a few here and there that I didn't post, too.
This was an audiobook for me and that's how I've continued with the series. I wasn't too impressed with Sarah at first, but she does get stronger as the series progresses. I always want to go down the block to the quilt shop and sign up for lessons after one of these.
ReplyDeleteThey make a nice change of pace in my mystery/thriller/suspense/paranormal tendencies.

ReplyDeleteHA!!!
I originally read this one solely because I needed a Q title for my first A-Z reading list. I later read the second in the series when I needed a break between the darker stuff I normally read, but I think the addition of a dead body in a rolled up quilt somewhere would be cool ;-)
HEY! Is anybody else not receiving e-mail notifications? These two comments were not sent to me. Hmmm
ReplyDeleteVickie ~ I listened to it too and Sarah just seemed young to me. I agree about wanting to quilt! I've dabbled in it and really enjoyed it at the time.
Suzi ~ That's why I chose it - needed a "Q". Every time they opened up a new room to clean or sitting out on the gazebo . . . I was hoping! :)
