I chose this book to read for the Celebrate the Author and the Young Reader Challenge and am very surprised that all Yarrow did was put the song on the pages of a book. I expected a story! The illustrations were fine, but nothing special and I don't understand why this is such a beloved tale. Whatever.
Oh, thanks for the laugh Joy. :) I remember watching this cartoon when I was little, but I remember nothing about it except the song.
ReplyDeleteIt has a catchy rhythm but I don't see the draw either.
ReplyDeleteTrish ~ Maybe that's the point . . . it's only worth is the song. He's trying to make the best of it. :)
ReplyDeleteBooklogged ~ There were several paragraphs in the back of the book that were written by the author. He focused on the book's deep message of friendship and loss, then a new beginning. And people have written how they cry after reading this story. ???
I am a big Peter, Paul, and Mary fan. I grew up with their songs. My earliest recollection is on Puff. I always loved the song.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read this book, but Peter Yarrow was here in Vancouver promoting it and my husband and I went to see him.
He sang a lot and was really great with all the children who attended. At one point he had them all up on the stage with him singing.
We met him after the show and he autographed a CD that we brought with us. We also have a picture of my husband and I with him. We had a great time.
Teddy Rose ~ Thanks for your input. (I mean that sincerely.) It "humanizes" the book. Is that a real word? :) Anyway, I don't doubt that he is a compassionate and wonderful man. He obviously has a tremendous following and I'm happy that he has had success. But, unfortunately for me, Puff doesn't do anything for me.
