COMPLETED: August, 2008
UGH! Oops! I promised I would try not to grumble about this challenge. As many of you know, I am NOT a fan of classics. I have a very bad track record and do not relish the idea of reading more; HOWEVER, Trish has creatively put together a fun, updated challenge that I think I can successfully complete without too much angst. Check out the link below and join us! It'll be fun. It'll be fun. It'll be fun. (That is NOT grumbling!) *smirk*
Hosted By: Trish's Reading Nook
(5 +1 books/July - December, 2008)
Anne of Avonlea (Montgomery)
*Classic Wannabe: The Remains of the Day (Ishiguro)
Of Mice and Men (Steinbeck)
The Bell Jar (Plath)
Flowers for Algernon (Keyes)
Travels with Charley (Steinbeck)
OTHER POSSIBILITIES:
Something Wicked This Way Comes (Bradbury)
The Catcher in the Rye (Salinger)
Kidnapped (Stevenson)
You crack me up, Joy! But you also make me feel better about myself...as my experience with classics is very hit and miss. So many of them I just can't get into, and then I always feel like some kind of heathen or something.
ReplyDeleteJust try to remember to pick from the 'good classics' list this time and not the 'bad classics' list you used last time.
ReplyDelete;-P
(you knew I wouldnt be able to resist teasing you, didn't you?)
Debi ~ LOL Trish is allowing audiobooks AND children's books, so I feel like I have a chance! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm still trying to make my way over to your blog. I haven't forgotten you! I have been trying to get blogger to give me my e-mail notifications and I'm not getting very far. And, I've been signing up for challenges, too! :)
Suzi ~ I feel the love, Suzi, I feel the love. :) Yes, I did expect some ribbing from you. You did not disappoint.
Thanks for stopping by. I haven't seen you for awhile. Did you get my comment that the Medical Mystery Challenge is back?!
I haven't enjoyed all the classics I have read either but I signed up for this one. I had 5 that I needed to read for the Decades challenge anyway. :)
ReplyDeleteYes - I did get your message about the Medical Mystery challenge. I'm so glad. I'm working on my list and will post something soon.
ReplyDeleteOh Joy--it WILL be fun! :D Thanks for the post and link. Without people making their lists just yet, I'm worried about the word-of-mouth advantage. And I'd like to know what classics you have had good luck with--my mom and sister are thinking about joining and classic lit is a genre that is very foreign to them. They've asked for suggestions, but not sure what to tell them yet.
ReplyDeleteSuzi ~ Wow! You didn't let the other shoe drop. I wasn't waiting for it, because I didn't realize it until just now. Do you know what I'm referring to? I forgot to title my posts! I'm impressed and surprised that you didn't mention it or maybe you didn't notice? :) Apparently I had a lapse in memory being that I was all excited about posting the new challenges. They are all fixed now! :)
ReplyDeleteTrish ~ Tee Hee, it's gonna be a short list - a VERY short list. :) I'll get back with you on that. (I'm writing a note to myself right now.)
Hee hee hee - Oh I noticed! - when I went back and tried to bring up just the post so I could track it through co.mments ;-) It's hard when there's not a title - I have to click on the time stamp.
ReplyDeleteI decided not to say anything because I think a "one taunt per post" rule is a good thing ;-P
ps: you're gonna love Mudbound
Suzi ~ LOL Thanks! I've made it a definite choice after skimming your post. :)
ReplyDeleteBTW ~ I've only just begun (HA! An Andyism!) reading The House at Riverton, but I'm liking it so far.
Trish ~ Click on the Classic/"C" in my Categories. That'll show you all the classics I've read. Well all those that I labeled as classics.
I will say that Pollyanna, Anne of Green Gables, and The Good Earth would be good choices. Although, P and A are very similar.
Ohhhh, and I struggled through Anne (I remember reading your post now). Maybe it was just bad timing for me.
ReplyDeleteTrish ~ I tagged a few more. Mainly Agatha Christie books. Also, the category Book Awards (I think you can get there by the search at the top) which were mainly Newbery may have some they would like to read and also the Decades challenge. But HEY! we all know I'm no expert on classics! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat list. Three of my favorites are on it: Mice and Men, Catcher and Kidnapped.
ReplyDeleteNise' ~ Well that's encouraging. :) Thanks!
