The story of Katniss continues right where The Hunger Games left off.
Overall, I was disappointed in the story line in Catching Fire. It was too repetitious, consequently, leaving the suspense by the wayside. My other complaint would be Katniss. She was not the Katniss I remembered - I missed the strength in her character.
However, I was impressed with the creativity of the world in which Katniss lives. Collins has a gift for making the oddest ideas seem realistic. Catching Fire did have some twists and turns that kept the book interesting, but I was not riveted like I was for The Hunger Games. Despite my lack of enthusiasm, I am looking forward to the conclusion. Hopefully it'll be fresh and exciting.
My husband enjoyed this but he said it's not as good as The Hunger Games.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to reading both of these.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I love your new look!!!
I agree with you. I was quite disappointed in it.
ReplyDeleteI just finished this one this morning, and I really liked it. So many twists and turns -- I was never bored! I can't wait for the conclusion, myself. :o)
ReplyDeleteBermudaonion ~ I agree with him.
ReplyDelete3M ~ The Hunger Games is fantastic, and I'm sure you'll be excited to move to Catching Fire. I hope you find them both fabulous. :)
Farmlanebooks ~ I sure hope the last one is as great as the first.
Cassie ~ Like I commented on Goodreads, I just found it too similar to The Hunger Games. Collins has a great imagination, though, and I look forward to where she'll take us in the next book.
That so bums me out about Katniss. :( Still I'm sure I'll read it before too long...
ReplyDeleteOh I absolutely loved this one also!!!! I just can't wait for the conclusion!!!!
ReplyDeleteBTW....interesting twist to Big Brother tonight don't you think??? Kudos to Jordan for winning!!!
Debi ~ Don't mind me, Debi. Katniss is different from my perspective, but I haven't seen her personality mentioned in many other reviews. There's hope that you'll be happy with her. :)
ReplyDeleteDebbie ~ I'm looking forward to the conclusion, too. I think it'll be more engaging for me because it won't be a repeat.
YAY Jordan! She truly hasn't done much in the game - a real floater on Jeff's coattails; however, she's still there and I don't think she has enemies in the jury house. She's been a sweet girl and Jeff was a real doll, too.
Ah, we agree on this one, too, although you gave it a little higher of a rating than I did. Like you, I thought it was repetitious. Initially, I thought I wouldn't go on and read the third in the trilogy, but now I'm thinking I will. I want to see if she can take whatever criticism has come her way about #2 and shape #3 into a stellar conclusion. We can only hope, right?
ReplyDeleteLes ~ Oh yes - I'm hoping BIG TIME that she can create a masterpiece for the conclusion. She's got a big job ahead of her. However, we are in the minority - most people liked this one just as much or more than The Hunger Games. Why??? It was so much of the same thing. :(
ReplyDeleteAnd I think that's what bugged me was the constant reminder of what happened in book one. And, I didn't mention this in my review, but it seemed like every chance she had, she'd mention something about one of the characters' nudity. It seemed a bit gratuitous toward the teen audience. Just my two cents. :)
ReplyDeleteLes ~ I always appreciate your two cents. :)
