Words are phenomenal, don't you think!?! Their makeup of extraordinary characters create an incredible power. Words can and do change lives.
I love the paths of new thinking that words create in my mind, therefore I read. This blog is a place for me to capture my feelings about the adventures I have taken within the confines of the written word. The following are purely my simple words of pleasure. Or not.
My Personal Rating Scale
5 = Absolutely Outstanding4.5 = Excellent4 = Very Good 3.5 = Good3 = Just Okay 2.5 = Eh2 = Not Enjoyable 1.5 = Ugh1 = Don't Bother
Staci ~ Yeah, many people have "loved it to pieces," but I wanted to "tear it to pieces." (tee hee) Seriously, I didn't like it at all and when the husband put his wife's ashes into the cake for his guests - THAT did me in!!! Unbelievably disgusting. I'm still appalled by that. And, this time - getting a rise out of me isn't a good thing. Don't worry though, Staci, I won't hold your love for this book against you. :) Us Michiganders/Michiganians stick together, right?
You should see the look on my face! I can't believe this was a DNF for you!! This was one of my all-time favorites last year. I'm friends with the author (ok, friends on Face Book isn't really the same as "real" friends, but still... !) Anyway, I'm so sorry you didn't love it as much as I did. Or even like it a little bit. :( Oh, well.
Les ~ My reaction has nothing to do with your "friend" as a person. I'm sure she is a delightful woman. :)
I would love to have loved this book, like so many do, but the whole concept didn't work for me. I listened (I have a hardcover, too) to over half of it, giving it a grand effort - unfortunately, as you can see, it ended up as my first DNF of the year. :(
Well, you can't get more honest than that! LOL I've never heard of it actually. You've done well to make it this far into the year for your first DNF, though!
Stacy ~ I'm in the minority on this one Stacy, so don't hold back on my account. If you are an avid cook or wrap your life around memories of food and think there is magic in that, then you have a good chance of liking it. Okay - that was a little severe. I love food and retain memories of gatherings etc., but don't get into the texture and color and the divinity of it all. Eek! There I go again. That's why it's a DNF. I hope you like it. I really do. :)
I'm sorry to see you didn't enjoy this one.
ReplyDeleteLOL... well that says it all I guess!
ReplyDeleteI actually really liked this one!
ReplyDeleteBermudaonion ~ Me, too!
ReplyDeleteJenny ~ It's just not my type of book, and I was hoping it would be.
Amanda ~ I wish I did. I know most people enjoyed it, but it wasn't for me. BTW - It's nice to see you. :)
I totally understand. I have had many of those.
ReplyDeleteI loved this one to pieces!! Made me want to take a cooking class!! maybe the next one will be the winner???
ReplyDeleteBTW...sending Fallout to you tomorrow!
