Donte Drumm is accused of a heinous crime and sentenced to death. Just hours before his execution, Travis Boyette comes forward with new information with the intention of exonerating Donte.
I love John Grisham's writing even when I'm not too impressed at the end of a book - that's just how it's been since I began with The Firm. However . . . my patience is wearing thin. Once again, I enjoyed his writing in this book - definitely comfort reading for me, but I need more from him now. I need the excitement and suspense that I have felt in the past. This one actually turned into laborious reading towards the end. I just wanted to get through it so I could move on to something else. That has, unfortunately, modified my relationship with John Grisham. Bummer.
I was thinking of buying this with a gift card I have - now, I'm not so sure. Thanks for the review.
ReplyDeleteJust o.k. crapoola...I'm tired of Grisham turning out bland books! I may never read him again and that is a sad thought.
ReplyDeleteI've read a couple of Grisham's books and enjoyed them. I know that sometimes I find with authors I've followed for awhile that I enjoy their later books less and less. It's always sad when that happens. It's too bad this one wasn't better for you, Joy.
ReplyDeleteI'm on the waiting list for the audio at the library. I won't feel bad if it's just okay for me too, as I won't be buying it. Thanks for the honest review.

ReplyDeleteOh, dear. It's been a long time since I've read anything by Grisham. I loved his earlier novels, but after a while, his writing began to feel very simplistic and boring. I think the last book I read was A Painted House, which I did like. Probably because it was such a departure from his usual books and it felt more substantial and richer than the legal thrillers. I think I'll take a pass on this one.
I haven't read a Grisham book for awhile now. I used to really enjoy them but then I just kinda stopped reading him. I've been thinking about giving another of his books a try but it won't be this one.
ReplyDeleteBermudaonion ~ I think my post already answers that idea. Sorry. :)
ReplyDeleteStaci ~ "Bland" - perfect word.
Literary Feline ~ It feels like the ending of a long-term friendship - definitely sad.
Diane ~ I bought it. :( I have bought every book in hardcover.
Les ~ "Simplistic" - another perfect word; however, sometimes a simplistic read is perfect for me. I know he can write better, so he should not be my go-to simplistic author.
Samantha.1020 ~ He has others that would be a better choice, imo.
