SECRETS TO THE GRAVE

Author: Tami Hoag
Genre: Mystery, Oak Knoll Series #2
Published: 2011
Personal Rating: 3.25/5 (just okay +)
Format/Narrator: Audiobook/Kirsten Potter
Yearly Count: 77

Set in 1986, a murdered mother and her gravely injured 4-year old daughter were found in their home in Oak Knoll.  A detective and a former FBI profiler take on the case.

I was a bit disappointed in this second book of the series.  It was good at times, but others not-so-much.  Having children play an important role in a plot is tricky, and I didn't like how the children were portrayed in this one.  Also, being that it was audio, I didn't care for hearing the narration of the children either.

There were other characters that I felt didn't move the story along, but ultimately the plot was somewhat interesting.  Figuring out who-dun-it in the late 80s with no computers or cell phones needs to be more than "somewhat interesting" to keep me reading the series.  I'm a little concerned about attempting #3.

  2. I don't think I would like the children's voice in this type of book either...creep factor big time!

    1. Staci ~ I think I have a different perspective of children and how they act (and sound) being that I work with them everyday, as you may have as well. I know that every person (young and old) has the potential to be extreme. I just prefer to read about the more realistic behaviors.

  3. I really agree with your thoughts on this one as I felt similarly. I liked the book but definitely didn't think that it was as good as the 1st one. I have the 3rd book on my Kindle but I'm in no rush to read it...hopefully it will be more enjoyable though :)

    1. Samantha.1020 ~ I have the 3rd in audio. I'm not in a rush to get to it either. I think I'd like to go back to her other books. It's just nice to stay on top of a series when you can.

It's been years since I read Hoag and I'm not sure why. She used to be a favorite.
