THE AVIATOR'S WIFE

Author:  Melanie Benjamin
Genre:  Historical Fiction, Standalone
Published:  2013
Personal Rating:  4.25/5 (very good +)
Format/Narrator:  Audiobook/Lorna Raver
Yearly Count:  8

This book is a fictional account regarding the life and times of Charles Lindbergh and Anne Morrow (Lindbergh).

What a terrific way to learn about the Lindberghs.  It didn't keep me spellbound per se, but certainly interested and intrigued enough to listen to it as often as I could.

I appreciated the author's fact finding mission and her ability to incorporate the information into a novel that made sense.  There's an Author's Note at the end, and she mentions that a good historical fiction novel encourages readers to want to know more.  Well, I do.  She did her job well.

  2. Oh, good! I'm so glad to hear this is a worthwhile read! I can't decide if I want to read it in print or listen to the audio. I suppose it all depends on when I can get to it. I have the audio on reserve through my library, so we'll see. How was the reader/narrator?

    1. Les ~ I realized after I published this post that I forgot to mention the narrator. Unfortunately, I didn't care for her. Her narration was fine, but her voice did not fit the image I had of Anne at all, and I never got used to it. That's purely a problem that's in my head only, so take it for what it's worth. Thankfully, I don't think it affected my experience.

    2. Thanks for letting me know. If I get to the printed edition before the audio, I won't fret about missing out on a great reader. BTW, you listened to Ready Player One, right? Have you read Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore? (I'm too lazy to search your archives.) If you haven't and you enjoyed RPO, I think you'll like Mr. Penumbra. The reader reminds me so much of the reader for RPO!

    3. Les ~ I thought RPO was good, but I didn't mention the narrator in my thoughts on the book. I'm sure I thought he was fine. I'm interested in the 24-Hour Bookstore, but will only listen to it if my library system has it.

I have bad news concerning Emily, Alone. :( I'm finding it depressing and can't wait to be done (2 more CDs!). The good news is that it's depressing because the writing is so real. I can't believe it didn't make you feel blah. We have to talk more later!

    4. I just read (and commented on) your review for Emily, Alone. :(

I finished Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore this week (took me a month to listen to the entire thing and it's not a long book!) and feel ho-hum about it. I'll get to my review in the coming weeks. :)

    5. Les ~ "Ho-Hum" isn't what I was hoping for, so I'll probably skip it. Oh well. Sorry it wasn't a better audioread for you.

  4. I had heard of this but didn't realize it was a novel (rather than a straight bio.) Sounds good.
