From NetGalley:

As World War II sweeps the continent and England steels itself against German attack, Maggie Hope, former secretary to Prime Minister Winston Churchill, completes her training to become a spy for MI-5. Spirited, strong-willed, and possessing one of the sharpest minds in government for mathematics and code-breaking, she fully expects to be sent abroad to gather intelligence for the British front. Instead, to her great disappointment, she is dispatched to go undercover at Windsor Castle, where she will tutor the young Princess Elizabeth in math. Yet castle life quickly proves more dangerous-and deadly-than Maggie ever expected. The upstairs-downstairs world at Windsor is thrown into disarray by a shocking murder, which draws Maggie into a vast conspiracy that places the entire royal family in peril. And as she races to save England from a most disturbing fate, Maggie realizes that a quick wit is her best defense, and that the smallest clues can unravel the biggest secrets, even within her own family.

I wanted to read this second book in the Maggie Hope series for a couple reasons:  1.  I was hoping it would be a little more sophisticated and have more depth than the first and 2. The third was coming out, so this needed to be read first.  I'm disappointed to say that, for me, this book had the same feel as the first in the series (my thoughts) and while I'll probably go ahead and read the third, I don't anticipate much more than I got from the first two.  Who knows . . . I could be surprised.  Here's to hope!  (No pun intended, but I like it.)  :)

My thanks go to Random House Publishing Group and NetGalley for providing me with this eGalley.

    1. Staci ~ I didn't read every single one, but I read a lot. That style just doesn't suit me anymore. :) I also unintentionally compare this series with Maise Dobbs and there's no comparison.

    1. rbclibrary ~ It seems to be growing in popularity. I'd still give it a chance if I were you. It's just not my preference. I probably will still read #3 because I have the egalley, but after that . . .
