From NetGalley:

London is under attack. An unknown number of its citizens are dead. Many more lives hang in the balance as a group of highly trained gunmen storm the luxurious Stanhope Hotel on Park Lane, demanding the government meet their requests within five hours—or they will blow up the building and everyone still inside it. Shots ring out. Some guests panic. Others text their loved ones. A few try to escape. All are united by their desire to live. And at the center of it all is one man who has information so dangerous that it must be kept safe—at any price. Darkness falls. The gunmen become increasingly violent. One question is on everyone’s mind: Will any of them survive the night?

This was my first introduction to Simon Kernick, and I'm happy to report that it was a positive experience!  I really enjoyed the fast-paced plot most of all, along with the twists; however, I didn't care for the major focus on the shooting scenes.  This turned out to be one of those books that I could read (obviously), but would have a difficult time watching.  It also was a tad bit unnerving, because I was on vacation (yes, staying in a hotel) during part of this reading.  Not a great idea, but I was already invested and wanted to know the outcome.  Compartmentalizing was key.  :)  "The inspiration for Siege" at the end of the book was interesting, too.  I enjoyed reading about Kernick's thought process while writing the book.  He is definitely an author I will pick up again.

  1. I can read books like that too but would avoid watching something similar. I like page turners like this!

  2. I was reading a book in where the main character's plane crashed and only she and another person survived...while flying. I tried to tune that out big time and just enjoy the story!! This sounds good and 4 coming from you means a lot!
