ORDINARY GRACE

Author:  William Kent Krueger
Genre:  Mystery, Standalone
Published:  2013
Personal Rating:  3/5 (just okay)
Format/Narrator:  Audiobook/Rich Orlow
Yearly Count:  49

It's 1961, and the Drum family experience a Minnesota summer none of them will forget.

I found this novel to be a bit too slow for my liking.  If I had been reading it, I probably would have set it aside.  However, being that I was doing some major house renovations, I just kept listening away as I worked.  It took me 3/4 of the book before I actually became interested.  Oddly enough, I did like the characters, the storyline and the narrator.  Maybe if my circumstances were different, I would have enjoyed it more.  I think the slow pace wasn't conducive to my actions at the time of listening.  Others seem to be loving it.

  1. I read this in print and loved it - I wonder if it lost something in the audio translation.

    1. Bermudaonion ~ I liked the narrator. I really think it was just too slow for what I was doing when listening.

  2. It's really fun how frame of mind and what you're currently doing at the time can really either make or break a book!!!

    1. Staci ~ Sometimes authors can't win for nothing! I feel for them. They may have the best book ever, but timing is everything for a reader. I'm believing that more and more.

  3. Oh, no! I won the book and have been anxious to read it, as I've heard great things about it. Maybe this will be one we disagree on? :)

    1. Les ~ For your sake, I hope we do! :) It's slightly reminiscent of The Homecoming of Samuel Lake (which I loved!), but doesn't come anywhere near the impact. (for me, anyway) You tend to like quieter books than I do, so there's a good chance you'll rate it higher. I did like it, just not as much as I would have hoped.
