Waiting to write my thoughts down is not my normal mode of operation, but that's where I find myself today. I don't remember my detailed thoughts, but I do know that I'm not a fan of this type of book. It was slow and drawn out, and ultimately, there were too many questions unanswered. You just have to accept the ending and make assumptions on unknown facts. However, what kept me listening was the suspense. I was always wondering what big event was around the corner. In the long run it wasn't what I expected, but it was an okay listen.

ReplyDeleteWho set who up?? I was so confused at the end. Rose clearly killed the guy (I read this in August, so am a little fuzzy on details) but was she set up to kill him by Odalie? Would love to hear your opinions!

DeleteMORE SPOILERS...I'm curious too. I read this for book club but no one finished the book by the time we met so I didn't get to discuss the ending with anyone!! To me the whole thing seemed a bit pointless--even if Rose was at fault, what did she have to gain when in the end she was under lockdown? And now I don't remember all the details either. I enjoyed the journey more than you did but was truly annoyed by the ending. Way too open-ended.

DeleteI need a good audio book! I listened to almost the equivalent of 175 pages of A Land More Kind Than Home and finally decided to throw in the towel. I have the ARC and might finish by reading the print version, but I'm not sure. I'm not pulled into the narrative at all. The good news is that my library just sent me notification of 6 audio books available for download. Yay!
ReplyDeleteLes ~ A Land More Kind Than Home has been calling my name for months and months and months. I have it patiently waiting for me (print), but something else has always taken its place. Now I'm a bit disappointed that it may not be what I was hoping it would be. :( The good news is that I don't feel as compelled to get to it. A little pressure off (even if self-imposed) is a good thing. :)
DeleteI have not downloaded any audios but have ebooks. For audios, I store the CDs (audiobooks) in iTunes and then upload to my iPod when I want them. I have a whole library of audiobooks waiting for me. :)
Guess what? I started reading the ARC of A Land More Kind Than Home and I may actually finish it! I think it might be a case of a poorly narrated audio book. I'll keep you posted.
