Dr. Mike Bekker (character from Eyes of Prey #3) escapes from a courthouse and begins another killing spree. Lucas Davenport is asked to assist in the investigation.
There were a couple of things that kept me from really enjoying this addition to this series: I did not care for the narrator at all (unfortunately I discovered that he narrates #5 as well - I now may be reading that one), and there wasn't a lot of suspense or intrigue (bit boring). In general, I enjoy police procedurals, so it starts with a decent advantage, but overall, this one was just okay.
Thoughts of Joy
A bad narrator can just ruin a book. That's too bad because I love that series.
ReplyDeleteBermudaonion ~ I want to love it, too!
DeleteMy sister loves this series! Has all 20-odd books and has been begging me to read it, so I have one (more recent) but haven't got around to it yet. Not exactly feeling the love yet.
ReplyDeleteNicola ~ I think I have just about all of them, too! The love hasn't blossomed yet for me either, and I'm still willing to try #5!
DeleteI haven't read a Lucas Davenport book in a few years now. I think I stopped somewhere around #12. I enjoy the character development, but the plots are hit & miss. I haven't tried any of the audios and I doubt I will. Good luck with #5.
ReplyDeleteLes ~ Thanks! I'm going to keep going, so I can get a "hit"! :)
DeleteI've been wanting to return to this series (I've read one book--one of the later ones).
ReplyDeleteLiterary Feline ~ I started at the beginning and have found them to be okay to very good. I think it's a series that I can expect to find a decent read (and better), but nothing really special. My desire is to love the series, but that's just not happening.
DeleteI'm listening to a Sarah Jio book now (love her) but the narrator's male voices are awful! The narrator can make all the difference.
ReplyDeleteStacybuckeye ~ I only read The Bungalow, and thought it was very good. I have others by her, but just haven't gotten to them yet. I don't think I have any in audio though.
DeleteThere is a narrator (a very popular one) that I cannot listen to. She drives me crazy!!! It's such a bummer when I discover it's her that has narrated a book, because then I can't listen to it.
I'm going to give this guy one more chance. I'm hoping I made a drastic mistake in judging his narration.
