Lydia, the daughter of a mixed-race couple, is dead and nobody knows why.
One word to describe this book would be: expectations. In each family member, expectations are pervasive. I could imagine the scenario in real life with variations in race or age, etc., so a lot of it rang true to me. However, the whole book was so frustrating and difficult to listen to at times. There wasn't a redeeming character anywhere to be found. It didn't grip me, but I wanted to know the outcome. I was not satisfied . . . at all. :(
Thoughts of Joy
Joy, I agree. I know it's been on many "best of" lists but it didn't grab me either. Nor did I buy the resolution of the crime.
ReplyDeleteJan B ~ Yeah, the resolution was weak and disappointing.
DeleteI gave it a 3/5. Too much sadness, too much loneliness, too many misunderstandings... I didn't care about any of the characters either.
ReplyDeleteGuess what? I posted on my blog after being away almost 6 months!
Les ~ Yes! Misunderstandings GALORE!
Delete6 months!!!! I've missed your posts, but didn't realize it has been THAT long. I'll have to pop on over and comment instead of reading through my feed.
