THE HOUSE AT RIVERTON

Kate Morton
Genre: Historical Fiction
Published: 2008
Personal Rating: 3.5/5
Yearly Count: 65

Grace Reeves leaves home at the age of 14 to work as a servant at Riverton House. Now at the age of 98, she is approached by a director to verify facts of the Hartford family and death at Riverton. Flipping from flashback to present, Grace shares all the details of her relationship with the children of the house and reveals the secrets she has kept all these years.

I fall into the minority with my rating, but I'm not too surprised. Overall, I thought it was good - its saving grace being the last 100 pages or so, even though they were somewhat predictable. I felt like the other 300 plus pages were just okay, with some of them actually being dull. I had hoped for more, but still enjoyed parts of the story.

  1. I'm sorry you didn't like this one more, Joy but at least it wasn't a total loss!

  2. I read this a while ago and I agree totally with your review- the middle was a bit dull and then it picked back up again at the very end! I was a bit unsure when I had finished it so glad it wasn't just me!

Dot ~ Yay! I really thought I was the only one that rated it something other than a 4 or above. I'll come by later to see your review.

  6. I've read so many good reviews of it that I have it on my TBR. It's not one I would normally pick to read, so it will be interesting to see what I think if I finally get around to reading it.

Good to know it wasn't a total miss for you.
