From Goodreads:

Despite constant efforts to declutter your home, do papers still accumulate like snowdrifts and clothes pile up like a tangled mess of noodles? Japanese cleaning consultant Marie Kondo takes tidying to a whole new level, promising that if you properly simplify and organize your home once, you'll never have to do it again. Most methods advocate a room-by-room or little-by-little approach, which doom you to pick away at your piles of stuff forever. The KonMari Method, with its revolutionary category-by-category system, leads to lasting results. In fact, none of Kondo's clients have lapsed (and she still has a three-month waiting list).
With detailed guidance for determining which items in your house "spark joy" (and which don't), this international best seller featuring Tokyo's newest lifestyle phenomenon will help you clear your clutter and enjoy the unique magic of a tidy home - and the calm, motivated mindset it can inspire.

DON'T BE FOOLED BY MY RATING, and I didn't audioread this book to jumpstart a New Year's Resolution!!!  (Also, the new show didn't have anything to do with it either.)

I audioread this book, because it was short.  Period.  I was trying to reach my 52 books for the year; therefore, I had a collection of shorter books and audiobooks.  This happened to be one of them.  I didn't need it for 2018, so it became my first of 2019.

My rating is purely based on two facts:  it kept me entertained and engaged (crazy talk, I say, crazy talk), and it left me with positivity, encouragement and inspiration.  I think that's worthy of a very good rating.

The nitty-gritty of the text was absurd.  Marie is the ULTIMATE PERSONIFIER.  I dislike personification immensely.  It's just not my thing.  I'm surprised I didn't topple over with dizziness while listening due to the amount of eye-rolling I did.  HOWEVER, for someone that is prone to clutter or just doesn't have the wherewithal to clean up after themselves, this method may be useful.

Most importantly for me, I finished the book truly feeling revitalized.  Maybe just listening to someone else sort and throw out stuff does that for me . . . who knows?!  LOL  I do have a closet to clean out (tentatively scheduled for winter break).  Will I use the KonMari method?  NOPE!  Unless my clothing and/or other closet items start talking to me, then I may have to reconsider.

  1. I haven't read it, but have heard 'all' about it. I'm a tidy person by nature, so I have my own methods. My husband and daughter learned to be very clear about what they wanted to keep or 'out it goes'. LOL

    1. Kay ~ I have my own methods, as well. However, I do keep things probably longer than necessary, but am neat and tidy. :) Remember this past summer? I took 4 bags of books to the library (and will do more this coming summer)! Last week when I was there, they had a sign on the door that read, "Please do not bring more than 5 bags of books a day." They must have had an influx of books for our last used book sale! Not a bad problem to have!

  2. I've picked up books just because they're short too. I think I'll skip this one.

  3. I started this one, but never finished it and doubt I will. I am curious about her television show and may give that a try. I am glad you enjoyed it. Maybe I would have fared better with the audio.

    1. Literary Feline ~ I've heard kind things about her show. I suppose after watching one or two, it would become redundant. As for audio, yes! It just keeps going. LOL I would be more tempted to put it down and not waste my time after one eye roll or so. The audio keeps going as I'm driving. Like I said, though, it was uplifting and simply encouraging whether or not you choose to use her method.
