BROTHER ODD
Dean Koontz ~ BOiPod
Personal Rating: 4.25/5
Yearly Count: 8

Odd Thomas. I absolutely love that guy. His wit, his compassion, his sarcasm, his humility, etc. make for a very unique and loveable character. Koontz has created a gem in Odd.

While "Brother Odd" was seeking solitude in a monastery, he encountered brewing trouble. The trouble component of the storyline was not of interest to me, but it didn't deter me from enjoying Odd. If it weren't for that extra dose of sci-fi, I would have rated it higher. Also, the other characters I met along the way were enough to keep the dialog interesting and the storyline forgiven.

I've heard by many that WATCHERS by Koontz is excellent. I think I need to pick that up soon.

  1. I am glad to hear that you enjoyed "Brother Odd." I have "Odd Thomas" on my TBR list and will look forward to this one.

I have read "Life Expectancy" too and also enjoyed it.

PS-tried to respond to your email twice but it bounced back both times.

  2. I love Odd! He is a jewel of a character, isn't he? I enjoy most of Koontz's books, though I don't care for some of his earlier books. Next to the Odd series, I liked From the Corner of His Eye.

  3. Amy ~ ODD THOMAS was the best one. The others are good, too, but that one is great. I think I have LIFE EXPECTANCY on my iPod ready to go.

Did you just hit reply to respond back to me? That's weird. I'll shoot out another one to you from my actual account, not through the TBR Yahoo site.

Booklogged ~ FROM THE CORNER OF HIS EYE...thank you! Another one to add to the TBR list! :)

  4. Joy - I loved Odd Thomas, but didn't care for Forever Odd. Have you read that one? Is Brother Odd better and more like Odd Thomas?? Glad you rated this one so high. Now I'm anxious to get a copy.

  5. Les ~ I rated ODD THOMAS a 5/5 and FOREVER ODD a 3.75/5, so yes, based on my ratings, I liked this one better than FO. However...I honestly think that I just missed Odd and it was good to hang with him again. :)

As I mentioned, I didn't care for the added sci-fi component, but liked the connections Odd made throughout the monastery.

Another huge aspect to my rating is that I listened to all three books. The narrator David Aaron Baker is fabulous!

  6. Yes, yes, Watchers. I just recently picked up Koontz again with The Husband, after not reading him for several years. Watchers still sticks with me, so I want to go back to it.

Good to hear the feedback about listening, too. I've been trying to listen to some books on my ipod, so it's good to know that these are good, because I want to read the first Odd book.

Btw, Dean Koontz has a podcast, and it's great!

  7. Jennifer ~ Ummmm, this is for your eyes only...I don't know what a podcast is. Well, I sorta do, but I don't. Please explain. :)
