I hope you (who, if I recall, are not a fan of personification) enjoy 'Watership Down'. I did not. I wouldn't have liked it, even if it featured people rather than bunnies. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteKookie ~ You are right. I HATE personification, but I choose it based on these reasons:
ReplyDelete1. I have heard positive things about it for years and years,
2. I put it as my "1970" book choice on the By the Decades Challenge, and
3. I have it on my Personal Genre Challenge.
It is already set up as a "challenge" for me being that bunnies talk, but I hope I enjoy the storyline. Your comment about not liking it "even if it featured people rather than bunnies" is not good news for me, but if I can read MRS. DALLOWAY and RABBIT, RUN...I can read this! :)
Congratulations, Joy! And I hope you do enjoy Watership Down. I haven't read it and so can offer no opinion. Like you though, I've heard mostly positive reviews about it. :-)
ReplyDeleteYipee, Joy! It's always so fun to win something, isn't it? And a book is really a treat.
ReplyDeleteLiterary Feline ~ Thank you. I'm actually looking forward to it.
ReplyDeleteBooklogged ~ This most definitely is a wonderful treat and I'm truly grateful to 3M. :)
I was more or less forced into reading Watership Down and I can't tell you how much I did not want to read a book about militant bunnies. My best advice? Go in with low LOW expectations.
ReplyDeleteCarrie K. ~ This is crazy! I have never heard a negative comment about this book until I posted it. I'm very surprised and bummed. I'm still going to read it, so you'll probaby end up reading about my plight with this book when I'm done and that will be of no surprise to you (and Kookie). Thanks for the heads-up.
ReplyDeleteI've never read this book but I hope you enjoy it. It's considered a classic so I'm assuming it has some great qualities. And congratulations on winning. I'm giving away a book tomorrow. BAFAB has been a very fun thing for me.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Joy! I loved Watership Down! I'm not sure if you've ever read it, so I won't be terribly specific, but some of the rabbit characters will live forever in my mind. I read it in the late 70's, and I'll never forget BigWig (who's hair I'm sure mine resembled at that time). Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteFramed ~ Thanks. I'm not good with "classics", but I am good at giving books a try. :)
ReplyDeleteBellezza ~ HOORAY!!! I'm so glad to hear a positive review. I'll think of you when I meet BigWig. :)
Congrats, Joy! I hope you like it. I haven't read Watership Down, but I hope to one day. :)
ReplyDeleteBookfool ~ Thanks. I'll post my thoughts when I'm done.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you received the book, Joy! I eagerly await your review. This is one that has been on my TBR list for awhile and one I had planned on reading in early 2008.
