Neil Gaiman ~ BOiPod

No surprise here ... Gaiman is not for me. For a while I was flip-flopping back and forth as to whether I liked this book or not, but I had no wishy-washy feelings by the end. It most definitely is a NOT. Preposterous storylines just are not a genre that I enjoy. The only reason I didn't rate this a "1" is because there were some one-liners that amused me. Those are what kept me listening and its only saving grace.
Wow. I guess realism is more your style. Gaimon does have a good sense of humor though. At least you gave it a whirl.
ReplyDeleteKookie ~ Yeah, I can't fake it. As much as I try to venture out, I am what I am. :)
ReplyDeleteCoraline is his children's book and it's really good. I was less impressed even with Stardust, which everyone else seems to love. I am looking forward to the movie, however.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you could try Coraline for the 2nds challenge. It really is excellent--especially on CD.
I'm sorry to hear you didn't like this. I've read Coraline, and I really loved it. So I put Gaiman's American Gods on my 2nds Challenge list. My tastes tend to be much like yours on the reading front, so now I'm worried I won't like this one. Guess I'll find out in October.
ReplyDeleteI read Neverwhere and really enjoyed it but then I enjoy fantasy and sci-fi. Sorry you didn't enjoy it but hey, at least you gave it a shot!
ReplyDeleteAnd that's why it's called a Personal Genre Challenge! It's like new food. Some you like, some you spit back onto your plate.
ReplyDeleteEw. Sorry for the imagery.
I think I preferred this to some of Gaiman's other books, but I can see why it wouldn't appeal to your realist taste. At least you can now move on to other genres!
ReplyDelete3M ~ Ahhh, Coraline on CD may be a good choice for me. Thanks for the suggestion.
ReplyDeleteDebi ~ Evidently Coraline is a good one. I hope you like your choice, too. However, I've heard many good things about AB, but it's just not my genre.
Amy ~ I did indeed. :)
Carrie K ~ LOL I wouldn't have known, unless I tried.
Heidijane ~ Yep! I'm glad I tried it though. He does have a wit to him that I liked, so it wasn't a total wash. :)
