Alice Walker

The narrator is Celie. She is a black woman who has endured emotional and physical abuse from several male figures in her life. Her story is one of perseverance and survival.
I enjoyed the format of the book. Celie tells it through letters to God and letters between her and her sister, Nettie, who fled the abusive home. I liked the letters from Nettie best, but I don't believe that was supposed to be the focus of the book. It was good, but nothing special.
I read this book many years ago and remember liking it quite a bit. I remember the movie more though. Have you seen it yet, Joy?
ReplyDeleteI really like Alice Walker as a writer. She takes on some very difficult subjects.
Literary Feline ~ I was surprised that I didn't like it more. And, nope, I didn't see the movie.
ReplyDeleteThe movie is quite good, too.
ReplyDeleteI like your personalize note in this "Leave your comment" section! How did you do that??
You sure are doing well with all your challenges! Once I get caught up on all my favorite blogs (2 weeks away was relaxing, but I sure got behind with blog-hopping AND reading!), I'll get back to my challenges. Too bad there isn't a photo essay challenge. That's all I've been posting these past few weeks!
I see you personalized your 'leave a comment' section. Hope it was my advice that was helpful. ;)
ReplyDeleteIn this case, I will agree with you. I wanted to like this book more than I did. It was good, but I wanted more from it.
Les ~ I asked Kookie (comment down below) the same thing! :) It's under Settings, then Comments, then you type your comment in Comment Form Message. Isn't that a neat idea?
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear that you had a wonderful vacation. It sure looked like fun. :)
Kookie ~ Absolutely it was you! :) I thought I came back to thank you, but I just checked and I didn't. THANK YOU for your help. I must have been so excited with the new found information that I forgot. Sorry, I meant to. Thanks again!
Regarding the book, I think you said it perfectly, "...I wanted more from it."
I thought the movie was very powerful but it didn't make me want to read the book.
ReplyDeleteFramed ~ I'm going to have to see it.
