Brett Battles' debut novel (June, 2007) is definitely worth a read if you are interested in page-turning chases. The main character, Jonathan Quinn, is not a humorous or light-hearted individual, actually quite the opposite; he tended to be more serious and deep. He is definitely no Myron Bolitar (Harlan Coben series), but he is intriguing nonetheless with just a hint of wit.
Quinn's occupation is a shady one. He cleans up scenes to avoid any detection of evidence prior to the arrival of police. In The Cleaner, he and his apprentice, Nate, are hired to investigate a case of possible arson and discover more than they intended; hence their search for real answers and a run for their lives. I like the relationship that Quinn and Nate have begun and hope to see it develop into something a little more edgy.
Mr. Battles has completed a draft of the sequel to The Cleaner and is currently working on the third Quinn adventure. I look forward to their publication.
This sounds interesting - I'll have to check it out.
ReplyDeleteHmmm...this sounds mighty good...
ReplyDeleteSounds intriguing! The premise sounds kind of standard, but the idea of a more character-oriented story with some focus on the relationship between the two characters could make it quite unique and interesting.
ReplyDeleteSuzi, Debi & Heather ~ Yes, the chase was typical, but the actual storyline was interesting. I just hope Quinn and Nate's relationship takes on a stronger presence in the next one.
