BLUE CHRISTMAS

Author:  Mary Kay Andrews
Genre:  Chick Lit
Published:  2007
Personal Rating:  3/5
Yearly Count:  158

A holiday, window display contest sends Weezie Foley into a frenzy when some of her already placed decorations are missing.  Then, someone is found sleeping in the display and food begins to disappear from her home.  Weezie also tries to lighten her boyfriend's gloomy holiday mood by inviting many people over for Christmas dinner.

Listening to this did not help my enjoyment.  I found parts of it to be too dramatized and that ruins a book for me.  The story line ended up being okay, as were the characters.  All in all, a quick read with some seriousness and silliness thrown in.  For me, chick lit often ends up in the "okay" range, so this one was no different.

  1. Wow--lots of Christmas books for Joy! I just started my first one day (Holidays on Ice), but I think because of lack of time it will be my only one. I'll definitely remember to skip this one. :P

  2. This one is on my stack and I hope to get to it before Christmas. I'll be reading the book. 3/5 isn't bad for a Christmas book, though.

  3. Thank you for the "recommended by" for my blog, toots!
I am sorry you didn't like it as much as I thought you might. I may be biased since I like the author's work so much.
I'm not reading holiday themed books yet. I'm working my way through my A-Z Challenge books I have left.....eeeeek! = )

That looks like a fun read for this time of year.

  5. Trish ~ Yep! And, I'm almost done with another one. :) This is the only time of year that I read them, so I like to make sure I get a few in. You may like it, but I don't think you're a big chick lit fan either.

Mary ~ I agree, 3/5 isn't bad. There were times when I really liked it, but then there were those other times, too. I really think it was okay. HOWEVER, Mary, you may really like it. (I'm thinking you will.) I'm liking 'Tis the Season much more than you did. :)

Vickie ~ You're welcome! Thanks for the recommendation. :) Seriously, Vickie, it wasn't bad. I think it takes a lot for me to enjoy a holiday chick lit themed book. I KNOW the audio version played a part in my disappointment. I am curious about the author though. I will definitely give her another try.

Bermudaonion ~ I don't know if you're a chick lit reader. If so, give it go! It definitely has some good points.

  6. Chick lit isn't my favorite genre, but I do love Bridget Jones--so who knows. :P

  7. Trish ~ I didn't think it was. I really like Becky Brandon (Shopaholic Series) and on occasion, I read a chick lit that I really enjoy, so - hey! I may not be a fan, but I like one every now and again. :)

  8. I really like Mary Kay Andrews, but I was a bit disappointed by this one, too. I think it was because I hadn't read Savannah Blues, the other book about Weezie at the time (I have since and enjoyed it) and this one seemed like it was just meant as a Christmas-themed tag-on to her story.

  9. TinyLittleLibrarian ~ It's good to know that this isn't the best it gets. I'll give Andrews another try. :)
