Lori Jean, a 10-year-old from rural 1950s Georgia, shares the most crucial two years of her life. Unfortunately, Lori Jean is dead - she tells her story from the heavens.
Wow. This was tough to get through at times. Lori Jean was an adorable, insightful, yet innocent, strong, little girl that brings you into her world - hook, line and sinker. Unfortunately, her world was not a pleasant one. The turmoil in her life didn't prevent Lori Jean from being a delight to know; she will not be forgotten anytime soon. She lived out many messages that will remain in my heart.
I'd never heard of this book before, but it sounds wonderful. You sold me!
ReplyDeleteThis is so funny! I just finished this last week for my book club... gotta post my own review. It's funny that it's an older book and two of us read it the same week!
ReplyDeleteWow Joy, this sounds like a good read. YOur description of this book reminds me of Lovely Bones. Is this a new release? I'll have to check if my library has it.
ReplyDeleteThis looks to be a touchingly wonderful read. Thank you for your review bringing it to my attention.
ReplyDeleteWow, this sounds very intriguing! Thanks joy.
ReplyDeleteLike Dar, I was immediately reminded of Lovely Bones when I read this description. Have you read that one?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review!! I put it on my wish list!
ReplyDeleteDebi ~ I have another one by her (Miles) on my shelf titled Cold Rock River. I'm really looking forward to that one now.
ReplyDeleteAmanda ~ I've been wanting to read it for several years and FINALLY got to it. I'm curious as to what you thought.
Dar ~ This book was published in 2001, but she does have others. Cold Rock River in 2006 and a chick lit in 2008.
Vickie ~ It was definitely touching.
Nicola ~ I sometimes had a hard time putting it down.
Trish ~ I listened to maybe two chapters of The Lovely Bones when it first came out. At the time, I wasn't interested, so I ended up setting it aside. All I remember is the description of the murder, then she was watching her family from heaven. If it's a continuation of that - watching them move forward, then this one is not the same.
Lori Jean explains the finally moments before she dies, then she goes back and lives her story up until she dies (which is some of what she already told us).
Please remind me of The Lovely Bones. :)
Kristina ~ Let us know if you get it.
LOL--you're asking the one with the worst memory! Maybe Dar can help...
ReplyDeleteBut the narrator of The Lovely Bones is murdered and she is trying to help her family solve her murder--I believe through the sister? It's been a long time, maybe 4 years. I can barely remember what I read last week! :P
Trish ~ Tee Hee
ReplyDeleteDar ~ Do you remember how the narrator fits into the story of The Lovely Bones?
I don't completely remember but the narrator is a young girl who is murdered. I don't think she helps solve her murder, she just comes back and watches over her family and the murderer over the years. Her father as I remember it is obsessed with finding her murderer though and that may be how that part comes about.
ReplyDeleteHaha--just confirmed with coworker and I was WAY off base. :) I guess I do need to re-read it. Did you know that a movie is being made with Mark Walberg as the dad? Guess he plays a bigger role than I remember!
ReplyDeleteWow, it this is a debut, I wonder what the next one will be like.
ReplyDeleteDar ~ Thank you. It is different than Roseflower Creek.
ReplyDeleteTrish ~ I didn't know there was a movie coming out. Hmmm I think I'll listen to it before it comes out. I just wasn't interested the first time.
J. Kaye ~ Yes, it is her first novel. I'm looking forward to the second. :)
Wow! I haven't heard of this before but I am intrigued. I'll have to check this one out :)
ReplyDeleteIt sounds similar to The Lovely Bones, which I really enjoyed. It's going on my list right now!
ReplyDeleteSamantha ~ It's a good one. It almost made it to 4.5/5. :)
ReplyDeleteJoanna ~ Oh good. I hope you get a chance to read it.
