Their roles have been reversed. Instead of being the sidekick of Elvis Cole, Joe Pike is the lead in this book. Pike has a debt to pay, so as payment he accepts the job as bodyguard of a young heiress who finds her life in jeopardy after a traffic accident.
What I liked best was learning more about Pike's past and the appearances of Elvis Cole, but other than that, I wasn't too impressed. The plot seemed drawn out, and I didn't develop any connection to the characters.
I thought this one was okay, but I was pretty disappointed. I expected much more from a book that features Joe. And I expect him to fall for a much more worthy woman than a Hilton-like heiress. The next book comes in January. Here's to keeping our fingers crossed!

Lezlie ~ Oh yes! I'm so with you on the "more worthy woman."
ReplyDeleteJoy, Thanks for your honest review. This book sits on my IPOD taking up space, and I did not think I'd enjoy it. Now I am pretty sure that would be the case.
ReplyDeleteLove your short and to the point reviews.
ReplyDeleteDiane ~ I really like Crais. Even when his books aren't all that fabulous I am still involved. This one didn't have much for me to care about. A big problem was that I didn't like the heiress. :(
ReplyDeleteStaci ~ I'd rather read than write. :)
I'm sorry this one wasn't better for you, Joy. I enjoyed the first book in this series and hope to read more someday.
ReplyDeleteLiterary Feline ~ I love Crais. There are only 2 or 3 that I haven't read yet (still trying to get caught up), but I think Pike's macho/quiet persona got a little muddled with the girl. :( Hopefully the next one will be better.
