I CAN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT AND RESEARCHING THIS:
Oh my. This morning, the bestest husband ever asked me if I wanted a Kindle for Christmas! (He wouldn't mind if I chose a different eReader, but that's what he asked.) Needless to say, my plan of cleaning has been derailed. I have been absolutely giddy with delight!
I have not thought about getting an eReader because I have an iPad and love, love, love it. However, we are a gadget family (especially with Apple products) and should not be surprised by Mr. Joy's question - but, I am and I'm loving it!
I have to say that I'm leaning towards the Kindle. Anyone want to support or convince me otherwise?
Kindle with Wii is on my wishlist.
ReplyDeleteWe love gadgets too. I have an iPad, a Kindle and a Sony e-Reader. Between the Sony and the Kindle, the Kindle is superior. I've never tried a Nook, though.
ReplyDeleteI love my Kindle. Much more than I ever thought I would. The new ones are really nice. I have a Kindle 2. I saw one at Best Buy when we were shopping for new washer/dryer (which I got and I'm excited about). My husband asked me if I wanted a new Kindle for Christmas. I don't need one, but the new ones are lighter and I think the contrast for the print is better.
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking of getting a Kindle also. What kind would you get? My friend has an iPad and loves it and reads on it a lot. She loves the light but I've heard that others don't like that feature.
ReplyDeleteBook Bird Dog ~ Kindle with Wii??? Tell me more!
ReplyDeleteBermudaonion ~ WOW! Kindle seems to be the preferred choice. (lucky you!)
Kay ~ There's a big smile on my face to see you! :)
We got a new washer and dryer about a month or so ago - love, love, love them!
I have to do more comparisons overall, but then comparisons between the Kindles available. I'm not up to snuff on the 3G and Wi Fi benefits. I know how they work with my iPhone, but not a Kindle.
We've got great husbands, huh? :)
Bonnie ~ I really don't know which one. We are going to do more research this weekend. Weeee! I had no intentions of getting one - really. I have my iPad and think it's the best thing ever. The light feature for night-time reading saved my marriage! I can't say enough good about it. I never had a lap top, so it's just a fabulous package. I think I have read 4 books on it.
However, it's my understanding that ePub formatted books do not work on the Kindle (or my iPad for that matter). They are books that I have found from publishers and libraries. Currently my library doesn't participate in the eBooks option, they like the PlayAways. Anyway, a Nook does handle ePubs, but I just don't see any other real positive reason to get it. Also, Mr. Joy found a HP Mini (small laptop) among his gadgets (he used it on vacations for a short bit) and let me have it. He didn't even remember he had it until I started mentioning that I couldn't read certain books on my iPad. I now use that for any ePub formatted books. It goes through Adobe Digital Editions and works perfectly, so that strikes out the positive of a Nook.
I'm fairly certain I'm getting a Kindle. I'll let you know which one once we decide.
If I were to choose - I would choose The Nook. I have heard fabulous things about it but the reason why I am leaning towards it is that B&N has a Nook "station" and Nook "classes" all the time in case you have questions-problems, etc....you get to talk with a real person. Just saying ;)....have you read Fall of Giants yet????? Awesome book!!!!
ReplyDeleteI've been babysitting my son's Kindle and I love it so much that when he gets it back I will end up buying my own!!!
ReplyDeleteWe are a gadget family as well, and love my iPad as an eReader, except in sunlight. I want the kindle too so I would also be excited if I were you.
ReplyDeleteI like Danielle's comment, especially since I'm a B&N employee and spend a lot of time at the Nook Desk. I love the NOOKcolor and am so tempted to get one, even though I have an iPad. You really can't beat the face-to-face customer service! Plus, you can walk into any B&N and read a book on your Nook for an hour for free every day. And the weekly promotions are pretty cool, too. $10 off a cheesecake when you show the cafe server your nook. A free smoothie this week, too. And every Friday there's a free book to download. If you get the "classic" Nook, the battery is replaceable for $29 vs sending a Kindle back to Amazon to replace for you for close to $100.
ReplyDeleteJust sayin'. ;)
Danielle ~ I'm glad you voiced your thoughts because I didn't know that; however, Nook station and classes are not a benefit to me. Thankfully, I have gadget savvy family members if I can't figure something out myself.
ReplyDeleteI have not read Fall of Giants. Thanks for the encouragement. :)
Staci ~ I'm glad there's at least one pro to his leaving. :)
Diane ~ Maybe you'll get one when you least expect it, like me. Ooooorrrrrrrr, maybe you'll just take a leap and get it for yourself. :)
Les ~ I think the only benefit that would truly make a difference for me would be the battery. I'm willing to forfeit that. :) Also, I would like ePubs to go on my eReader, but I can't get them from my library system anyway so it's a mute point.
*moot :)
ReplyDeleteI can't even use the excuse that they sound the same. :(
I love my nook. I can buy from multiple sources and stores (including Powell's). I didn't want to be limited to buying from Amazon. I can borrow ebooks from my library (Kindle is not supported).
ReplyDeleteI'm bothered by Amazon mining what people highlight on their kindles and marketing that data as the "most heavily highlighted passages". That's a little too big brotherish for me
SuziQoregon ~ I'm glad you like your Nook. I don't think I've come across anybody that doesn't like the device they have chosen. I can't wait to use my Kindle!
