THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE

Author: Stieg Larsson
Genre: Fiction, Lisbeth Salander Trilogy #2
Published: 2009
Personal Rating: 3.75/5 (good +)
Format:  Audiobook
Yearly Count: 26

A journalist and his researcher girlfriend were murdered right before his article based on the s*x-trafficking business was going to be published.  After an evil-filled childhood and violent behaviors, Salander is not beyond the scope of reasonable suspects - especially when her prints are found on the murder weapon.

This book started out much better than the first; however, I didn't find it as compelling.  I, specifically, enjoyed learning more about Salander's childhood, that when she wasn't in a scene, the story dragged a little for me.  Overall, I still enjoyed it very much and look forward to the third.

I actually liked this one the best of the trilogy. The third one ties things up, but I had other issues with it. I think actually these three should probably be read as one long book.

  2. Kay ~ My husband liked this one better than the first, as well. I thought one big scene was probably impossible, and it made a negative impact on my final thoughts.

  3. This is another series I'm late getting to.

  4. Bermudaonion ~ Well, at this point there's only a trilogy, so you are not too far behind. :) However, I don't remember the details (or know if it's true), but I did read somewhere that there is a possibility that at least one more may be published.

  5. I enjoyed the series but haven't seen the movies as yet. I understand they are quite violent but still good.

  6. I liked this one just as much as the third. I gave them both ratings of 4.5/5. The first only got a 4/5 rating. Probably because of its slow start. I can't wait to hear what you think of #3. Don't wait too long. Like Kay mentioned, these are best read as one long book.

  7. I read and listened to the first book and enjoyed listening to it much more. Thinking I might go that route for this one as well. But the dragging--I felt that in the first. Big time. Seems like a rollercoaster ride--all hills or dips.

  8. Book Dilettante ~ Welcome! I have only seen the first movie. I wanted to read the second book before seeing the movie. If I remember correctly, the movie was close to the book. Hopefully you remember the scenes as they unfold, so that you have time to cover your eyes. :)

Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Les ~ I agree. The first was very difficult to get into; however, I rated it a 4.25/5 because I liked the multiple subplots. This one was so much better in grabbing my attention in the beginning, but I was a little bored with all the in-between Salander scenes. I'm hoping the last one is a major winner for me. I need to reserve it right now!

Miss Trish! ~ This one doesn't necessarily drag. I think I was a little too eager to get to what I deemed as the good stuff. :) I listened to the first 2 and will continue with the third.

I really need to send you an email. Okay - now that I said it, I have to do it! :)

I have tried repeatedly to get into this book!!!! I was recently told that if I could get past the first 20 pages I'll be hooked. I'll give it another shot.

  10. Danielle ~ Besides letting it go and focusing on books you really want to read - my only other suggestion would be to skim the beginning. That may help get you past a rough spot. However, it just may not be the book for you and that's okay. As you know, there are many books on the shelves! :)
