STATE OF WONDER

Author: Ann Patchett
Genre: Fiction, Standalone
Published:  2011
Personal Rating: DNF #1
Format: Audiobook

After wasting hours upon hours on a previous book I should have abandoned, I decided to not let this one go down the same path. I abandoned this one in the middle of Disc 4 of 11.  It was b-o-r-i-n-g.

Hmmm...I've been thinking of starting this one soon as I have it checked out at the library. We'll see how it goes.

    1. Kay ~ In defense of the book, I have been sick with a very bad head cold for about a week now, so my patience are low. However, I did enjoy the whole beginning - at least 2 to 3 disks. Once she got where she was going - I was bored. Before I picked it up, I thought it was highly rated, but since ditching it, I have discovered it's been rated more in the 3 range. That gives me a little comfort.

  2. Oh no! I do have a copy of this one and I'm going to try it. Maybe it was the narrator???? and it would be better in print?

    1. Staci ~ Yes, the narrator could have played a role. She was a little dull. However, read my comment above to Kay. It could just be me. :(

  3. I did enjoy this, but I am reading Bel Canto now and I'm having a very difficult time getting myself to care.

    1. Tricia ~ It may have turned out to be "just okay" as was Bel Canto for me, but I just couldn't listen anymore. Good luck to you on BC. I hope it picks up.

    1. Diane ~ Yeah, I thought "0h no" too. There just wasn't much spunk to keep me engaged.

  5. I wondered how you would like it knwing that Bel Canto was "meh" for you. I've actually been thinking about downloading this one but maybe I'll wait for a bit. Think my library might has--free's better than using an audible credit. ;)

    1. Trish ~ I rated Bel Canto a 3.25/5 (just okay +), so I was curious as to how this one would pan out. I was hopeful, though. You may love it like Diane (above) did, but I was not captivated and I needed to be. I don't think I'll attempt another Patchett.

  6. Oh, no!!! I have the printed version and hope I don't have the same reaction as you. That said, I'm feeling the same way about The Marriage Plot. I'm on Disc 8 (of 13) and wondering if it's time to call it quits. Sigh.

    1. Les ~ For your sake, I hope you don't either! I have TMP as an audio as well and am now a wee bit more concerned because I am not necessarily a fan of that author to begin with, so hmmm . . .

  7. Well, no one can say that you didn't give here a chance. I won this one in a giveaway but after Bel Canto haven't felt the urge to read it yet. Your thoughts did not help :)
