C IS FOR CORPSE

Author: Sue Grafton
Genre: Mystery, Kinsey Millhone Series #3
Published:  1986
Personal Rating:  3.25/5 (just okay +)
Format: Audiobook
Yearly Count: 21

Kinsey's abilities are called upon when a hit and run survivor is convinced that the crash was an attempt on his life and wants Kinsey to investigate.

I enjoyed this addition to Grafton's alphabet series, but didn't think it was anything spectacular.  The process of solving the mystery took a very realistic path, and I appreciated that.  I also liked Kinsey's personality and look forward to her role in D is for Deadbeat.  Hopefully the interval between C and D will be less than 3.5 years, as it was between B and C for me or I'll never get through this series!

  1. I love this series - of course some of the books are better than others.

    1. Bermudaonion ~ Are you caught up in the series? I've heard for the most part that the series gets better and hasn't lost its punch.

  2. Like all long series that I started from the beginning, I like the first ten or so a lot and then the interest wanes as I find other more interesting series. Not all series do this to me, but this one did. One day I'd like to go back and revisit Kinsey. I loved the time this was written in and I adored her weensy apartment. I wanted to live there.

    1. Vickie ~ Eek! When I saw your name I had a pang of sadness. It has nothing to do with you, specifically though. :) My husband and I were scheduled to have a ball (reservations for lots and lots of fun) at Steamboat, and I got the flu (have never had it like I got it) the night before we were to fly out. It was absolutely devastating to say the least. I cried and cried, and I am not a cryer. Couldn't believe we weren't going to go. I have wanted to go to Colorado as long as I can remember - first for its beauty, then as I got older for its skiing/beauty. Now we're hoping for next year. Interestingly enough, the two days that we planned on skiing were the two days of record snow fall. It would have been very difficult skiing in a blizzard, so that worked out to our advantage. But still . . .

As for this book, I agree with your comment about series. If you pick up where you left off, I hope you slide right back into your happy place with Kinsey.

    2. Joy: {{HUGS}} for being so ill and missing your much anticipated vacation. Serendipitous, though, on the timing so you missed the blizzard. Let me know when you do come out here, though, so maybe we can somehow meet.
We love Steamboat, but we go in the spring or summer. Their botanic garden is neat and free, cared for by volunteers. There's a fab bbq place on the main street, too. Yum.

    3. Vickie ~ OH! You live near Steamboat?!? I will definitely let you know when we plan our next trip! I will get there one day!

*crier LOL Where was the automatic word check on that one?

  3. I've only listened to the very first in this series. Did care much for it, but maybe I need to give it another chance?

How are you liking The Night Circus??? Isn't Jim Dale wonderful?!

    1. Les ~ The time frame was difficult for me and wondered why she never had Kinsey grow with the years, but I like her and am willing to give more letters a go. :)

Oh boy, The Night Circus. I'm on disc 6 of 11, and I'm finally enjoying it. The beginning and then some was very confusing. I almost gave up, but remembered I had the book, too, so did some backtracking. My confusion had nothing to do with Jim Dale. I agree. He is absolutely wonderful! I think reading this one would be the better way to go to understand it, but then we'd miss out on the audio interpretation. Hmmm Anyway, I'm still shaken a bit from the beginning experience, but I'm settling in now and curious where it's going. I'm enjoying being placed in that setting.

  4. I'm a HUGE fan of this series! I honestly think that I've loved each book that I've read so far. I've got a ways to go before I catch up though as I've only read up to D. I'm glad to hear that you are enjoying this series as well!

    1. Staci ~ LOL Well, now that's a problem. I guess you'll have to take a guess and start reading book jackets or descriptions, if you don't have a journal of the books you read. My journal only goes back to 2003, then it's all memory from there. EEK!
