ELEGY FOR EDDIE

Author: Jacqueline Winspear
Genre: Mystery, Maisie Dobbs Series #9
Published:  2012
Personal Rating:  3.5/5 (good)
Format: Audiobook
Yearly Count:  31

A boy from Maisie's childhood was recently killed in an accident, but those that know him now don't think it was an accident at all.  Maisie is determined to find out the truth.

I love listening to the narrator of this series and enjoy Winspear's writing, but this one didn't have much intrigue for me.  Maisie lacked spunk and/or confidence, and I didn't find that appealing.  However, I love her, so I will certainly be continuing with the series.  This just wasn't a favorite.

  3. I was reminded to look on Simply Audiobooks for the Maisie series to listen to. I have most of them on the keeper shelf, but now I want to listen to them.

    1. Vickie ~ I think I only have 2 or 3, but I want them all! :) I thoroughly enjoy the audio versions, though. The narrator gives it the perfect feel.

  4. I've been thinking about starting this series on audio but my library only has #6 and I don't want to use my audible credits on series (I have mentioned how terrible I am at the them, right?). But I'm intrigued by the raves and by the time period.

    1. Trish ~ This series is one that I would start from the beginning. The first book is about her childhood and really is the foundation of her life/career (series).

You've been an energizer bunny lately! :)

  5. I have never tried this author, but know she is popular -- were the earlier books better?

    1. Diane ~ I loved the first two, then have really liked the rest with some great ones in there, too. The lowest rating I gave was a three due to a weak plot. Even though Maisie was having a "bad day" in this book, I still enjoyed visiting with her. :)

    1. Sheila ~ I have that problem with many, many books, so I fully understand! It is really a great series if you like historical mysteries. The first one introduces us to Maisie during her childhood. I hope you are able to get to it and love it as much as us Maisie-fans do. :)

  7. I've read and/or listened to the entire series up to this new one. I can't say I love the books, but I'm drawn to the series and will continue listening as the books become available at my library. They're entertaining, but more and more, I think I'm more of a thriller girl than these sort of mysteries. I just finished Gone and have started Gone Girl. I'm having to force myself to go to sleep at night and not continue reading!!

    1. Les ~ Oh, I KNOW that I am "more of a thriller girl," but I also know that I have to read other genres or my beloved thrillers begin to blend together. I love the character Maisie (not exactly sure why), but don't always think the plot of the books are love-worthy. This one, however, went a little further and changed Maisie, but everybody has a bad day every now and again, right? I still look forward to the next installment.

I LOVE the feeling of not wanting to stop reading. Being so caught up in a book that you can't turn the pages fast enough is blissful. :) Enjoy it while it lasts!

Speaking of "other genres," umm I finished listening to Major Pettigrew's Last Stand, and I'm sad to say that I didn't enjoy it as much as I had hoped. Those "other genres" I read really have a tough job. They have to work a lot harder to grab my attention.
