Cath and her twin, Wren, are freshmen at college experiencing life changing moments. Cath has a difficult time adjusting, so she continues with her comfort writing of fan fiction (Simon Snow). Meanwhile, Wren goes about her life and loves what college has to offer.
Once again, I was very impressed with Rainbow Rowell's writing. The flow and word choice makes her characters come alive. I enjoy her writing immensely, and the narrator reading her work was just perfect, too. The first year of college angle was enjoyed, however, I was not thrilled with the storyline. Specifically, I did not like the whole Simon Snow fan fiction component. :( I would almost disconnect every time a portion was read. Not good. I probably would have liked it more so, had it been a different, non-fantasy fan character/story. Oh well. It hasn't deterred me from reading more by Rowell. I'm still a fan of her writing! :)
I didn't really get the fan fiction aspect but still loved the book!
ReplyDeleteBermudaonion ~ I understand. :)
DeleteLike Kathy, I don't really get fan fiction, but this is an author I want to try.
ReplyDeleteStacybuckeye ~ I think you should plan on it soon. :) After 2 YA books, I'm looking forward to her adult one.
DeleteI really loved Attachments. I 'll have to give this one a try!
ReplyDeleteSusan ~ Thanks encouraging! :) I'm looking forward to it.
DeleteOops! That's encouraging!
DeleteSounds like we feel similarly with this book :)
ReplyDeleteChrista ~ Hmmm. I don't remember what you wrote.
DeleteThis sounds interesting. I am not really into fan fiction but I might be able to get past that if the book is good enough. I'm still not sure about this one, but I know the author is well liked--maybe I'll try something else she's written.
ReplyDeleteLiterary Feline ~ I'd begin with something else, however, it's not a bad read. Come back to it when you get the bug for her writing. :)
DeleteI still have this one and Attachments to read. I'm glad to hear the book was still enjoyable, in spite of the fan/character story. Like you, I really enjoy Rowell's writing!
ReplyDeleteLes ~ I want to read Attachments, too!! So many books, so little time. :(
DeleteI've read all her books and am now waiting impatiently for Landline to come out.
ReplyDeleteSusan ~ Landline doesn't sound familiar to me. Idk if I saw that one yet. Hmmm. No matter. I'm now impatiently waiting for that one, too. LOL. :)
