MY FRIEND DAHMER

Author:  Derf Backderf
Genre:  YA Non-Fiction Graphic Novel, Standalone
Published:  2012
Personal Rating:  4.25/5 (very good +)
Format:  Book
Yearly Count:  94

In pictures and blurbs, Derf shares his knowledge of the guy he knew in junior high and high school named Jeffrey Dahmer.

Not a pleasant topic, but the presentation had integrity.  Derf points out a couple times that while he had sympathy for Dahmer, those feelings abruptly stopped when Dahmer crossed the line.  I could sense that throughout the book and appreciated it.  The book felt like an honest (unkind behavior of adolescent boys and all) portrayal of Backderf's (and friends) relationship with Dahmer.  As for the artwork, it was fantastic.

  1. Thanks for reviewing this. I've been interested in it but have stayed clear of reading anything about Dahmer so far. I think I'll be able to handle this, going to put a hold at the library right away!

  3. It's been ages since I last picked up a graphic novel. This one sounds like it's very well done. I am glad you liked it, Joy. I will keep an eye out for it.

    1. Literary Feline ~ I really enjoy graphic novels, but only like a certain kind, so I don't read as many as I would like.
