I thought the story was very clear in this graphic novel form; however, I know it from seeing the musical several times. The interesting part about it was reading it "manga style." Reading a book from back to front and right to left turned out to be a very easy transition, but surprisingly, it made my experience a little bit fun. :) I thought the graphics were terrific and would certainly read another in this style.

Yeah! You liked a manga! I absolutely hate this book (& musical) sorry! and Pride and Prejudice so decided not to sample these but hopefully one I like comes around someday. I've read lots of graphic adaptations but, now that I think of it, never a manga one.
ReplyDeleteNicola ~ Eek! It's not a pleasant story for sure, but the musical is a favorite of mine. Oh yes, and I saw the movie, too. I would never read the book though, so this graphic novel was perfect speed for me. :) I would try Pride and Prejudice as a manga, because it's a classic, but I don't know that story. I've never been interested.
DeleteWho ever thought to do classics as graphic novels was brilliant! I even read The Odyssey (in graphic form) this spring.

Raidergirl3 ~ I've read a couple now (not in manga style, though) and it's perfect for me. I'm not a classic-lover, so getting the story in short form is ideal. :) If the musical for Les Miserables comes to your area - it's a must-see!!!
