During the aftermath of the Civil War, Captain Kidd, a traveling newspaper reader, is asked to deliver a 10-year-old girl to her relatives 400 miles away.
This book was my introduction to Jiles. I enjoyed her style of writing and thought the storyline was good, but incredibly predictable. Now the narrator, Grover Gardner, was very good.

Not my favorite time period.
ReplyDeleteBermudaonion ~ I understand. : /
DeleteMy mom just finished reading this one and is going to loan it to me. I don't generally read books set in America during this time period, but I'll give it a try.
ReplyDeleteLiterary Feline ~ I thought it was good, but others have been raving about it. I hope you love it.
DeleteVicki ~ It was good, but most people like it more than I did, so it may be a good idea to pick it up again. Hope you love it, if you do.
