I read The Diary of Mattie Spenser, last year, also. I enjoyed it but I'd just read a similar book that I liked a little better: The Scarlet Thread by Francine Rivers. Have you read that one? If you liked Mattie Spenser, I'm sure you'd enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteBookfool ~ I never heard of THE SCARLET THREAD. Thanks for the recommendation. I have read the MARK OF THE LION series and have THE LAST SIN EATER on my shelf, so I am familiar with the author.
ReplyDeleteWe seem to share reading tastes. I looked at my Top Ten lists and found some of your favorites on them.
ReplyDelete2003 - These Is My Words
2004 - The Kite Runner; Odd Thomas; The Tea Rose
2005 - Live Bait and Monkeewrench were in my honorable mentions
Hi Joy, great blog! I read Body Double last year and really liked it. I love mysteries but it has been awhile since I've read any. That may change since I found the John Dunning book! May I add your link to my blog?
ReplyDeleteEx ~ I would be honored, thank you!
ReplyDeleteHi Joy,
ReplyDeleteI'll look forward to seeing your Francine Rivers reviews. I've only read the one and have one more on my shelf (not sure of the title, but it's one of those with a headless woman in a long dress, lol).
Sorry I was so quick to delete that post on reasons to read that I didn't even see your comment. I found it in my email and printed it out. If I redo that post, one day, would it be okay if I include your response in the text (with a link)?
Bookfool ~ No apology necessary! You mentioned how you weren't getting any comments and I just wanted you to know that sometimes it takes a while. It happened to me once and I was perplexed at the time, but just left it. Later they appeared. :)
ReplyDeleteNo problem regarding my post...go ahead and include it. Although, I have no recollection of what I wrote. LOL
I loved Velocity and The Kite Runner. Haven't read any of the others, but there are several I'm going to be tagging on to my lengthy list. Sometimes we grumble about the length of those lists, but, really, it's such a blessing to live when and where we have access to so many things to read. Being able to hope that one of these days we can read another book from our list, and then another. How miserable we would be without books.
ReplyDeleteJoy,
ReplyDeleteI've already buried the printout (I'm a mess; I can't keep a clean space, lately) but your response was terrific; I remember that much! Thanks for understanding. I learned a good lesson in patience, this week. :)
I just finsihed reading "The Diary of Mattie Spenser." I really enjoyed it, but I was puzled by the ending. In the epilogue Hazel says that her grandmother (presumably Mattie) went on to become Mary Asotr, an actress whose husband scandolously divorced her in the 1930s because of her affairs. Wouldn't Mattie have been well into her 90s at that time? Then Hazel says her grandparents were killed together in a car accident in their sixties, and produces a love letter from the couple from 1902. I just can;t make sense of this. Was anyone else confused?
ReplyDelete? ~ Sorry I can't respond to your questions because I read this so long ago and have no thoughts posted (read it before blog). However, I know I really enjoyed it and glad you did, too.
