Joe Hill

Well, I'm thinking I'm in the minority with this one. I found absolutely nothing scary about it and actually thought it was quite ridiculous. The writing itself was just okay, and the plot kept me thinking, "You've got to be kidding?" So, I do not plan on picking up another book in this genre again. At least I gave it a try, and I now know for sure ... it's not for me.
This is the second review I've read on this book today. Thanks for confirming my decision to skip this one.
ReplyDeleteI've been burned out on horror books for a long time but I picked this one up because I was curious to see if Joe Hill wrote in the style of his father. I found the first 60 pages or so to be pretty easy reading and found the story to be OK but grew bored with it at that point and returned it to the library. It wasn't so much Hill's fault as it was that horror novels make me laugh...and they shouldn't be doing that.
ReplyDeleteJoy, thank goodness I only paid $9.95 for this book through zooba.com. I hated it.

Hmmm, once again Joy, we disagree. Nothing wrong with that. This book utterly terrified me (of course, I'm very willing to suspend disbelief...so anything goes with me). At least now you know, right?
ReplyDeleteFramed ~ I hate to sway you away from it when others truly like it. It's just not for me.
ReplyDeleteSam ~ I don't think I laughed out loud, but I fully understand what you are saying. :)
Arc2angel ~ I'm thankful you commented. I really thought I was going to be all alone on this one.
Kookie ~ I definitely know. :) I am glad I read it, just like all the other "out-of-my-comfort-zone" books I have read this year, and I don't regret it. Everybody has their own likes and dislikes, this one just happens to fall in the latter for me. I really am glad that it was a good read for you, though.
I was scared out of my mind and I LOVED it. :) lol
