In this 3rd book of the No. 1 Ladies' Dectective Agency series, Mma Ramotswe continues to run her business, but in a new locale, while Mr. J. L. B. Matekoni experiences an illness. Mma Ramotswe takes on a case with a government man regarding his concerns that his brother is being poisoned by his wife and Mma Makutsi steps it up by running the two businesses. She also brings in some cash with a beauty pageant assignment.
This one was a little slow for me, but I still thought there were some interesting little tidbits. I liked how the morality issue subtly came into play with the cases they were involved in and how they personally dealt with them. All in all, it was a comfortable, but just okay read.
I think I only actually 'read' the first in this series and then I started listening to them. I still only made it to #5. I'm feeling in the mood for another, tho. Listening is definitely the way to go, tho.
ReplyDeleteI love these books, in the UK they are making a television series of them on the BBC- they did a pilot episode over Easter and it was excellent- made me want to read the books again!
ReplyDeleteBooklogged ~ I definitely have to be in the mood for this series, so I can enjoy it for what it is.
ReplyDeleteDot ~ I saw that advertised somewhere. It was interesting to see the faces of characters. Now you've made me want to find where I saw that and look at them again. :)
HBO is slated to do something with the series next year, a mini series I think? I can't quite remember. I really enjoy reading this series. It's great light fun, I think.
ReplyDeleteLiterary Feline ~ This series is stretching it a bit for me, but the books have their good points. Thanks for the info regarding HBO.
ReplyDeleteJoy, I could not agree with you more. I crept through the first one a couple of years ago, and last year read a couple of them while recovering from a hip replacement. I would imagine they would be better on tape, but still think you have to in the right mood (planets properly aligned, etc...HaHa) to get through the books in this series.
ReplyDeleteCare020 ~ I have listened to all three and I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. It is read at such a slooooow pace that sometimes the dialog seems lame. On the other hand, it is read with an accent and makes the book more authentic.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I loved the first book in this series but have been very ambivalent about the others I've read. They're cute, but I do find myself getting a little bored. I'll most likely finish the series, but I'm in no hurry.

Lezlie ~ I think I liked the second book best because I knew what to expect. This one seemed to be slower yet. Oh well. I'll pick up the next one, but it won't be for a while.
