The second in the Agatha Raisin series introduces a veternarian to the village in the Cotswolds. This vet has turned the heads of all the women including Agatha who feels shunned by her neighbor and romantic interest, James Lacey. Unfortunately, soon after the vet's arrival, he is found dead. Agatha and James decide to play sleuths and begin questioning others - just for the fun of it.

I enjoyed this one so much more than the first. There was never a dull moment with Agatha's vivid personality. She entertained me with her views, embellishments and wit. She's quite the character and one that am eager to meet up with again.

POLLYANNA

Pollyanna is orphaned at eleven years old. Her wealthy Aunt Polly feels it's her duty to have Pollyanna move in with her. Right from the start, Pollyanna spreads her "gladness" wherever she goes. As time passes, she touches the lives of many people in her community until her own "gladness" is in need of repair.

This was delightful! Of course, I am aware of the Pollyanna stereotype, but now I have a clear image ingrained in my mind. I am so glad that I finally read this uplifting book. I am. I am.

MORALITY FOR BEAUTIFUL GIRLS

In this 3rd book of the No. 1 Ladies' Dectective Agency series, Mma Ramotswe continues to run her business, but in a new locale, while Mr. J. L. B. Matekoni experiences an illness. Mma Ramotswe takes on a case with a government man regarding his concerns that his brother is being poisoned by his wife and Mma Makutsi steps it up by running the two businesses. She also brings in some cash with a beauty pageant assignment.

This one was a little slow for me, but I still thought there were some interesting little tidbits. I liked how the morality issue subtly came into play with the cases they were involved in and how they personally dealt with them. All in all, it was a comfortable, but just okay read.

THE NAZI OFFICER'S WIFE

Edith Hahn Beer

This is the story of Edith Hahn, a Jewish girl growing up with her family in Vienna, Austria at the beginning of WWII. Edith shares her unique story of survival from childhood thru adulthood including, as the title indicates, marrying a Nazi.

This memoir was devastatingly excellent. I had never read a memoir of a Holocaust survivor that came from this perspective. It was very difficult to put down. Edith exudes courage throughout the book and I applaud her in mustering up the courage, once again, to enlighten others of her plight.
