THE CASE OF MADELEINE SMITH

Author: Rick Geary
Genre: YA NF Graphic Novel, Series
Published: 2006
Personal Rating: 4.25/5 (better than very good)
Yearly Count: 99

Madeleine Smith is secretly dating a man of lesser means and doesn't want to disappoint her family by continuing the relationship.

I find this series, A Treasury of Victorian Murder, to be fascinating. Geary has a way of succinctly describing the events and depicting them with his drawings that keep me engrossed. With my natural curiosity towards true crime books, these are a fantastic way to learn about and see the time period.

  1. This looks so good! I'll be on the lookout. I've not thought of mysteries being in graphic novel format. Is it in the YA section at the store?

  2. I was curious where you might find it located as well. Sounds so fun! I haven't had a graphic novel fix in a while. And I love mysteries. Sounds like a great combination. Thanks for reviewing!

  7. Vickie ~ I check them out from the library in the YA section, but I don't know where they are in the store. I would love to have the collection though.

Holly ~ I love the combination! As for getting a graphic novel fix - these are great for that!

Literary Feline ~ I've read 4 or 5 and have not been disappointed.

Trish ~ They are about 300 pages, but are easy to read because they are YA. Kidding - they are only approximately 80 pages. You sit down and read it in nothing flat, but for me each one has been a great experience. Even if you just gave one a try and didn't like it, not much time would be wasted. I would love for Geary to write/draw a long (300 page) true crime graphic novel.

Bybee ~ I'm looking forward to that one. :) I don't remember if I saw it or commented on your post. I'll be by to check it out.

Alisonwonderland ~ The whole series is great. He also writes classics and other comics, I believe. I want to get to a classic soon.
