I received this from the kind people at Scholastic (unsolicited) and felt the need to give it a try. Unfortunately, after 100 pages (double the amount of pages I usually give a book!), I cannot continue. My dislike is focused on the topic, not the writing. Plain and simple - I am not a fan of werewolf stories. Shiver has been received with high marks, so don't let my thoughts deter you from reading it.
Too bad about the book. I just finished Eclipse and asked hubby if he would rather be a vampire or werewolf. He chose the later. Yuck! :)
ReplyDeleteI like that you are not afraid to leave a book unfinished!
ReplyDeleteTrish ~ I had a conversation with my husband about vampires and werewolves, too. He was a little surprised that I didn't like it because I did somewhat like Twilight. I think going from a human to wolf and back again is well beyond my capacity to accept. Vampires at least look like humans - odd humans, but humans nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteCharley ~ I thought of you while reading it and really wanted to like it - at least a little bit. My husband was the one to convince me to stop. I am so glad I listened to him! I picked up Tilt-A-Whirl and feel like I've come home after a long vacation. There's nothing like a favorite genre visit.
Oh well, it was worth a try.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that you didn't like this one. It sounds similar to Twilight with the werewolf theme and I actually enjoyed that character more than the vampires!
ReplyDeleteYou gave it a try and I respect your honesty in sharing your thoughts here!!
I love the new look here and the header picture is lovely!!
Oh shoot. I have this book and from the reviews that I've skimmed it's gotten rave reviews. But I had NO idea that it was about werewolves. I somehow avoided knowing that until now. LOL
ReplyDeleteBermudaonion ~ Yep, ya never know when a book just might grab you.
ReplyDeleteBonnie ~ So...you're a werewolf-lover, huh?! I felt like Shiver had a younger feel to it in comparison to Twilight.
Maw Books ~ Yes, most people have enjoyed this book. I don't know if it would have gotten any better after pg 100, but I was avoiding it - very contradictory to my usual reading habits and a great indicator that I should move on. :)
Aw, darn. I like werewolves a lot but I think I like vampires betters. But then again I'm open to all paranormal races LOL I wanted a review copy of this but didn't get one. Scholastic Canada would *never* send out unsolicited review books. Lucky you! But too bad it wasn't a book you liked :-(
ReplyDeleteOh no, I just ordered the book...lol!
ReplyDeleteNicola ~ You probably would like this one - for sure more than me. :)
ReplyDeleteJ. Kaye ~ I'm happy to see you here! Don't worry about the book not being good. I am sooo in the minority. :)
I'm remaining hopeful. I do love-love werewolf tales, so I think this will work. ;) At least, I am hoping.
ReplyDeleteI still want to read it!! I like werewolves!!
ReplyDeleteJ. Kaye ~ I'm thinking so, too.
ReplyDeleteStaci ~ I'm glad you still want to read it. Most people really have enjoyed it.
