The story of one of America's most notorious killers is revealed in this true-crime comic unlike any other!
Throughout the 1980s, the highest priority of Seattle-area police was the apprehension of the Green River Killer, the man responsible for the murders of dozens of women. In 1990, with the body count numbering at least forty-eight, the case was put in the hands of a single detective, Tom Jensen. After twenty years, when the killer was finally captured with the help of DNA technology, Jensen spent 180 days interviewing Gary Leon Ridgway in an effort to learn his most closely held secrets--an epic confrontation with evil that proved as disturbing and surreal as can be imagined.
Written by Jensen's own son, acclaimed entertainment writer Jeff Jensen, Green River Killer: A True Detective Story presents the ultimate insider's account of America's most prolific serial killer.
I have come to thoroughly enjoy graphic novels, including the true crime genre. While I thought the content of this one was clear, the organization of it was not. I didn't care for the back and forth in time. It made the flow a bit scattered, causing difficulty in maintaing the tension. Even just a bolder announcement that we were flipping back and staying in that timeframe for a longer period would have been helpful.
I appreciated seeing and feeling Tom's angst and commitment to the case through the graphics of this novel. Also, the killer's cold and detached demeanor was evident. Thankfully, with Tom's perseverance, the guy was caught and put away.

My thanks go to Dark Horse Comics and NetGalley for sending me this eGalley.
I didn't realize there are true crime graphic novels. That seems like an odd combination, but I'd give one a try.
ReplyDeleteBermudaonion ~ Oh my goodness! One of my favorite graphic novel authors writes/illustrates true crime. Rick Geary! They are all short, quick reads, but excellent.
ReplyDeleteI e never read true crime GN's....I get scared easily and quit reading true crime about 15 years ago. I'm a sissy!
ReplyDeleteStaci ~ That makes sense being that you tend to read more romance and literary fiction. Mysteries are definitely more creepy (and scary) as true crime! Shiver!
