EEK! I usually only include 4.5/5 (excellent) and above in my yearly Best Reads list, but this year there is a meager ONE! :( Therefore, I must look back a little farther in my ratings and include those books that just missed the mark by earning a 4.25/5 (very good +). I'm happy with that.
The ONE AND ONLY book that received a 4.5/5 this year is:
Other really, really good books (listed in the order that I read them) I thoroughly enjoyed in 2012 include:
Joy, the only one on your list that I have already read is DEFENDING JACOB. However, I have almost all the others in my TBR. Exciting to know they worked well for you as we seem to be on the same page with mystery/thriller type books. LOL
ReplyDeleteHope you and yours have a very happy new year!
Oh Kay, I miss you! I hope all is well with you and your family.
DeleteI STILL have Vicki Delany's book (In the Shadow of the Glacier) on my HOPEFULS: 2013 list (explained a little more in my December Reads post). She has been on it for 3 years now. However, this year I hope to achieve a higher success rate than only 50%, so she has a better chance at getting read this year. AND, I think of you every time I see her books. That's a good incentive right?! :)
I hope you pick up some of my Best Reads of 2012 and enjoy them as much as I did.
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. I love hearing from you. Take care, Kay!
Excited to see The Inquisitor and The Prophet on this list which are both standing by on my tbr shelf!
ReplyDeleteGreat to see my friends Adler-Olsen, Gardner & Flynn (though that is not her best book :-) on your list too!
I'm reading Rule's latest book right now and loving it!
Nicola ~ Yay for the standbys! :)
DeleteI cannot wait to read more Flynn, especially if Gone Girl isn't even her best! (You are not the only one that has said that!) I have both books on my TBR shelves (and on my HOPEFULS: 2013 list), so this will be the year! That's the plan anyway.
Oh! I'm excited to hear about Rule's latest. Note to Self: Add Rule to my TBR list!
I'm looking forward to Kwei Quartey's latest. I loved the first two. Hurry! Hurry! :)
Thanks, Nicola! Happy New Year!
I haven't read any of those books. My book club will be reading Gone Girl next year so I'll be reading it soon. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteBermudaonion ~ I hope you are able to enjoy it despite all the hype. Happy New Year to you, too!
DeleteWhat a great list! I added a few I missed adding to my wish list when you first reviewed them. :-) My list seemed to have a lot of crime fiction novels this year--probably because that's what most of my reading comprised of this year.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a wonderful New Year, Joy!
Literary Feline ~ It certainly is my preferred genre! As much as I try to love others, the mystery/suspense/thriller books always rise to the top!
DeleteI hope 2013 brings you much happiness, especially with that little one you have at home!
I am loving reading all these Best lists. I haven't read any of these but Gone Girl is going to be my first book of 2013!
ReplyDeleteStacybuckeye ~ Me, too! Like I said to Bermudaonion, I hope you enjoy it despite all its hype. It's a weird book that kept me glued! I started my first read of 2013: The Bat (Nesbo). It's the first one in the series.
DeleteLoved Gone Girl, Wild , and Cold, Quiet Country. Now that it seems we like the same stuff, will have to check out the others on your list Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAnother Good Thing ~ I hope you find them to be as good as I did! :)
DeleteGlad to see Wild up there on your list! And I've been hearing so much about Defending Jacob--have thought about listening to it. Currently am listening to 11/22/63 (as well as reading) and loving it.
ReplyDeleteHappy new year Joy! Hope 2013 is a wonderful year for you--reading and otherwise.
Trish ~ Yay for Wild! :) Defending Jacob is definitely worth reading or listening, and while I didn't love 11/22/63! I did enjoy it.
DeleteHappy New Year to you, too! I will get back to you on your email (if you even remember you sent one - HA!), but I'm out-of-state at the moment and running around.
I didn't read anywhere near as much in 2012 as the previous years... Gone Girl is one of only 2 favorites (like you, I have a few "I quite like" but only two really stood out.)
ReplyDeleteNow I just need to review them...
Christa ~ Did you review them yet?! I'm very curious as to what book was your other favorite. :)
DeleteNot yet... haven't done a best of 2012 post... don't remember the last time I posted! I should... I am like a year behind in blogging since I didn't even get to review some of my fav of 2011! I need to start from scratch, but should at least do the review of my 2 fav (and honorable mention) for 2012...
DeleteThere are a bunch of authors that I've been wanting to try for some time now! Looks like I need to get to reading in 2013 :) I hope that you have an amazing year of reading in 2013! And I will definitely be reading Gone Girl this year thanks to this list :)
ReplyDeleteSamantha ~ I have so many authors I need to read, too! Here's hoping we both get to many of them! :) And, I hope you love Gone Girl.
DeleteThis looks like a great list! (sorry, just *now* finally able to catch up on "best of" posts! :--) I'm so pleased to see the Adler-Olsens on there, because I have been trying to decide whether to start those or not!!!
ReplyDeleteRhapsodyinbooks ~ I'm excited about that series and really look forward to the next one! I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.
